The numbers don’t really matter anymore when taking a 3 star over a 5 star. In the 85 scholarship days yes, but when we can have 20 more on a roster this is literally not a thing now.

Just looked at our class rankings on 247 and on3. It's strange the rankings seem to be backwards of what you would think they would be... 247 has us ranked 3rd with 7 4* and 9 3* and on3 has us ranked 6th with 1 5* Olu, 11 4* and 4 3*. Just a little weird to me

I believe on3 only counts a certain number of players per class, with more counted as it gets closer to signing day. IIRC, they’re only counting like 7 right now.

Yea but 1⭐ and everybody has 2+, then having a few low 3⭐ guys instead of guys that are borderline 4⭐ is the difference w/On3

Irish confident with JJJ, announcing after OV's as of now.
ND still leads for Park
Great quote "miami still had some optimism for Folorunsho, im not sure why."
cmon JJJ. you teasing us.

I have gone back and forth on Parks. But I do think that with the Muhammad commitment to Michigan, I think we need to be aggressive here. I understand they are different type of players. However, just get as many DL as we can (afford) and figure it out

I haven’t seen anyone on the beat confirm it but I wouldn’t be shocked if they are pitching James that he can play CB. His highlights are all over the field including punts. This guy is a Dallas Golden type ATH to me.

I think Driskal said he is a safety in hs but ND is recruiting as a cb

I’m honestly surprised that we haven’t seen LVB pop for the Irish yet. The way the writers were talking we might be done at Oline by the end of the week.

This class with 17 and a bunch of highly rated guys still likely is already better than a bunch of BK classes on 247 lol.
1778887584854.png
Already better than five of Kelly's twelve classes ('11, '13, '15, '18, '21 - though Freeman was a big part of '21 anyway)

Also, if you take Sean Kraft (LS) out of the rankings, the average player ranking is currently 92.59 - highest in either Kelly or Freeman's time.

The fact that 2016 and 2017 classes resulted in the 2018 and 2020 playoffs is wild. We didn’t have a prayer.

Probably missing some, but some notes from Eric Thomas recent pod:
  • Not saying we are the favorite, but we have a legit chance at Henderson (thanks MF)
  • If an individual choice, Parks goes to Oregon. But a lot of people around him want ND. Thinks ND wins out
  • Mentioned Evans reclassifying to 27 twice. Says we would be leader (friends with Vaughn). Jones and Williams likely to stick with current schools.
  • WR/RB Lacey is unlikely to land here
  • Good chance at Malik Howard
  • Can't recall hearing Simien or Gayles mentioned

-LvB next week
-Vaughn on 5/26

That gets us to 19 commits heading into OVs
-277.10 on 247 calculator
-3rd highest class since Weis’s 2008 group…and only going up to break 300 and claim #1
-Low end is 301, high end is 315

Room for 8/9 more prospects:
-2WR and/or TE, 2DT, DE, 2LB, DB

Sesay and especially Jones appear they’re already silents, but are old school (circa forever until this year) and want visits
-Jones - 5/29 Miami, 6/5 Oregon, 6/12 ND, 6/19 Florida OR Commit 6/20 - his original commit date was 6/27 but there is discussion for ND to be last visit and commit weekend before
-Sesay - 5/29 LSU, 6/5 Duke, 6/12 ND, 6/19 FSU

So 6/7 Undecided Prospects:
1or2 - Gayles, McAfee, Howard - Minimum take is 1. Home run = Gayles+Howard

2 - Fakatou, Parks, Alexander - Seems the staff want is 2. There’s enough uncertainty Alexander is visiting, but recent comments from insiders have ND getting it done with Parks via their connections. Fakatou will be interesting.

2 - LB is shaping up to be 1 of Igwebuike - most likely - Glover, Fox. Then MF chasing down/refusing to lose Henderson. Fox as a back up if that fails

1 - DB Evans reclassing and jumping in most likely, followed by flipping a commit elsewhere

You don’t note a source so I’m guessing it’s our own 2008.

I am betting Whisenton and Monds rise big time

Almost every position coach/group has been killing it the last two cycles, and then there’s whatever you want to call what’s happening in the LB room.

The linebacker position group is one that is naturally ranked lower by the services, TE you see the same thing.

Thomas Davis is LB #21 and he’s barely a 4 star, outside the Top 247. Also someone who dropped in ranking over time and was pursued by UGA, but that’s besides the point. Golden was DT #30 and ranked much higher. Fitzgerald WR #28. Charlie Thom (!) OT #24. All higher notably higher than Davis in both national ranking and rating. Ewetade was even DE #18 and that shoots him up to #150 in the country. So if you land a Top 20 DE, you get a Top 150 prospect with massive fanfare. If you land a Top 20 linebacker? Low 4 star hugging the 3 star line.

Roman Igwebuike for example feels like not a huge name to many here. He’s LB #14. That is comparable to Julius Jones.

They need Henderson to have it be an impressive haul, but I also think people are looking for these Top 100 linebackers to match the Top 100 DEs and OTs we’ve landed and they are just few and far between even in existence.

LB room has also had 3 coaches this year and was only looking for 1 more at the start of the year. Late start will lead to later closes, but not ready to write it off yet

Also FWIW if you add Quincy Porter to 2025 (which i think is fair as he didn’t use any eligibility unlike the other transfers), the ‘25 class would have had a 278.5 grade and 91.3 avg.

Really Interesting prospect.

- great measurables / frame
- plays at a premier program
- super productive: led aquinas in sacks (13), TFLs (24), Hurries (33) and tackles (155) in 2025
- Is rated top 100 on both rivals and 247
- Is the son of Pro Bowl DL Justin Smith

Yet despite this, his only premier offers are ND and OSU, and ND allegedly isn’t pushing hard. None of the Florida Big 3 have offered.

I also don’t see a top 100 DE on film, but I do see a guy who can be a very productive SDE once he gets up to 275+ at 6’6” with his motor.
