Fair enough. But I'd like to see Jesus take apart a fuel injector. Or hit a curveball.I would not co-sign the “Grease Monkey Gospel.”

Agree.
In my humble and very, very unscholarly opinion, the “works” we do, or “fruits” we bear are a reflection of our belief in Jesus and who He is.
As a Catholic for 23 years, I am very aware that Catholics DO NOT believe that salvation can be “earned.” I used to argue against that vehemently with my Protestant friends growing up—that and the fact that there is a difference between “worshiping” Mary and the saints and having a “reverence” or “adoration” for them.
Exactly right.Agree.

What do you need?Cheers!
I guess I just don't see the point in Mere Christianity. I push back against this "I just need Jesus and my Bible, bro" mentality. I don't mean any disrespect, but studying said Bible cannot possibly lead someone to think that's the mindset the earliest Christians had. Read Acts. Read the letters to the other churches. Read first and second century church history. Hell, read ancient Jewish history (check out Dr. Brant Pitre's books....PHD at ND, Go Irish).
I don't think we're talking about the same thing. What do you need?
I don't think we're talking about the same thing.
If you're asking me what we need for salvation, I already answered that.
If you're asking me whether or not we need the Church, that's more in line with what I'm trying to address.
Needing “Chruch” is a loaded question. I think we need community. Is it totally necessary? No… but it would be a difficult journey without my community… aka “Church”. Do we need to subscribe to a denomination or building? Not really but that makes community harder so I chose my community/church wisely.I don't think we're talking about the same thing.

so by extrapolation you say I am a Satanist?Satan believes in God…
No… but you said you “believe” in God. I’m just pointing out that Satan also believes in God. Christianity is about relationship not belief. Imagine if I woke up every morning and I told my wife I believe she exists instead of saying I love you.so by extrapolation you say I am a Satanist?
if so you just showed why so many are turning away from organized religion
It becomes what it becomes. So yes it has become that until someone starts taking about Skyline Chilli or Hacienda Ranch.I like all this back and forth stemming from Ivey just plain ol having some sort of mental episode and you guys treat it like it's some kind of theological debate.

So you subscribe to the Catholic Church or bust then? Cheers to you.Orthodox and Catholics believe Jesus founded a spiritual church and a physical church on earth. Most Protestants reject that truth. So I guess I'd recommend a deep dive on that particular debate. Because to understand bedrock principles in the EOC and CC, you have to understand the visible Church that Christ founded (which is supported in Scripture and history).

BTW, he also went on a gays are bad rant, and got cut by the Bulls.

Kids these days are so ungrateful. They weren't around in the old days when you had to pay a nickel to take the ferry over to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days, and you couldn't get white onions to tie to your belt (which was the style at the time) because of the war. All you could get were those big yellow ones! Please pardon my Old Man lack of crybaby sympathy, but unless he truly has some brain chemistry psychosis trouble, this hits me like a child's rant for attention when things aren't going well. The emotion-stripped theological message is essentially true (On judgement day no one will care about the Detroit pistons etc), but that he believes that HE's driven to correct everybody else's behavior is child pridefulness and insecurity (in my view.) So, he's at a tough moment of basketball setback: take a vacation in the mountains and meditate about growing up. ... There are only two laws of Moral Guidance. Both are about Love. Christ said that. ... so does the Pope, for that (Catholic) matter.
You could just say what you are wanting to say because I’m not sure what your point is.That's not what the CC teaches.
Athlete (who's mom is the women's bball coach at ND) makes anti-Catholic claims on IG. Poster creates thread on ND message board. And you're shocked a theological debate grew from it?
Just pointing out that when the CC says "There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church," there are caveats. It's not "or bust."You could just say what you are wanting to say because I’m not sure what your point is.
I was trying to understand your thoughts not the CC.Just pointing out that when the CC says "There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church," there are caveats. It's not "or bust."
Maybe that's not even what you were getting at with your comment. It not, my bad.
and you once again prove why so many want no part of any churchNo… but you said you “believe” in God. I’m just pointing out that Satan also believes in God. Christianity is about relationship not belief. Imagine if I woke up every morning and I told my wife I believe she exists instead of saying I love you.
You suck because your choice of baseball team,…. You need to repent for the sake of your soulResident preacher. Which is why most Atheists are Atheists
Do you believe that I suck bc I don’t brethe and eat the bible?
I know the feeling. The ultimate questions. Being honest with myself and my Catholic family was one of the toughest things I’ve ever dealt with.As I've shared on this board before (religion thread), religion, beliefs, God, afterlife, etc are very hard things for me to process.
I applaud those that have conviction in either direction (believe vs. non-belief) as I can't seem to get to either end.
Lol, im not even sure you know what you are offended about except that you came here to be just that.and you once again prove why so many want no part of any church
I am offended by arrogant morons all the timeLol, im not even sure you know what you are offended about except that you came here to be just that.
I was trying to understand your thoughts not the CC.
Idk how I feel about a priest being the one to forgive sins
You know what I meant.Didn’t see where the government threw him in jail…
Correct. I understand the chain in leadership from Christ down through the priest logistically. But as you said, the holy spirit is working through them in God's name. I do feel this is something that can be forgiven directly through the holy spirit and I believe in confession with the community of Christ followers.Well, I'm Catholic, so my thoughts follow with the teachings and dogmas of the CC.
The New Testament shows Jesus giving the apostles authority to forgive sins, do miracles, and “bind and loose" (not on their own, but through the Holy Spirit.) In the Old Testament, God gave a similar role to the priests when it came to atonement through sacrifices. Whether you think that carries on today kind of depends on where you land on apostolic succession. If you believe it does, then priests today would share in that same role. Again, not by their own power, but through the Holy Spirit. Either way, it’s ultimately God who’s forgiving the sins.
The IE bus has gotten off the Ivey highway and taken the religion exit. If we focus strictly on Ivey's comments at the macro level, there's not much to say other than, "It looks like he has some mental health issues". Diving deeper into his comments provides us with another avenue.I like all this back and forth stemming from Ivey just plain ol having some sort of mental episode and you guys treat it like it's some kind of theological debate.
