I don’t see how he’s not the best ND CB of all time if he stays healthy. He was probably a top 10 CB in the country as a freshman and a consensus 1st team all American as a sophomore. If he repeats his sophomore campaign, how it could be anyone else?
'Ever' is a very long time....though I agree Moore likely is/will be the best ND CB ever....and, I agree with the poster who notes that It's a different game now
I think Morrison may have been ranked up there IF he hadn't gotten hurt.
And, agree that Todd Lyght belongs in the conversation at CB
Others over the years...going back a ways:
Bobby Taylor....an AA at Safety, he moved to CB in '94
Jeff Burris...AP & UPI 1st team AA CB in '93
Luther Bradley...though Luther was a SS as a Frosh on the '73 National Champs...moved to CB after his 'year off' (75-77)
Mike Townsend...led the Nation in interceptions w 10 as a CB in '72....played FS the next year on the National Champs
Clarence Ellis...my personal favorite...like Bradley, started at Safety, but Ara moved him to CB for the '69 USC game...Trojan Coach McKay even noted that move in his post game comments-Elllis had a great game...stayed at CB & was an AA in '70 & 71 at CB & 1st rd draft choice
Tony Carey...he didn't even dress for all the games in '63 for Devore(he sat in the stands with the students)..then Ara made Tony a starting CB in '64 & Carey led the Nation in Interceptions w 8
Long, long time ago......
Johnny Lattner was considered a great two way player in '53(Single Platoon rules)...in fact, Lattner wasn't even the leading rushing for the Irish the year that he won the Heisman...Neil Worden was....Lattner won the Heisman in part due to his defensive play.
Johnny Lujack, played both sides of the ball, and reportedly didn't allow a single completion in his defensive area on '46 team that only allowed 4 tds (24 pts) all season...only 2 of the tds were scored on the 1st team defense!
anyway, ND's Moore has some pretty good company
