I hope we get a bunch of seasons of political maneuvering and family drama. They can save the CGI budget for the last two seasons when they need to kill off a bunch of dragons lol.

My fanboi outline:

Season One - Targaryens leave Valyria and arrive at Dragonstone, announcing their intentions at conquest

Season Two - Conquest, construction of King's Landing

Season Three - Exploits to the North, failure in Dorne

Season Four - Civil War

Season Five - Lead-in to Robert's Rebellion, maybe? That's a decent time-jump

I'm willing to bet that getting people on board the new show is going to be much harder than HBO anticipates. Season 8 was so bad that it retroactively kind of ruined the early seasons as well. I can appreciate Season One for being objectively excellent, but its hard to watch even the first few seasons when you know that nothing is going to end up mattering. Clever reference to Jon's parentage? Fuck you. Three eyed raven dream? Fuck you. The things I do for love? Fuck you. The whole TV universe has a stink to it now, and I don't think people are going to be nearly as excited to watch a prequel to a world that everyone knows has a stupid endpoint.

While I agree with your emotion and opinion on S8, I bet the premier blows up and is the highest watched ever.

I felt kind of the same.

I worry they're going to try and save money on casting the Targaryen crew, though, because they're going to be spending a lot of money on CGI dragons, which was always a big issue for GoT prior to the final season.

If they aren't spending a lot of money on CGI dragons, it means they'll be focusing on the politics of the Targaryens arriving in Westeros moreso than showing dragons in flight, which might be a good thing in its own way.

I think they can get a really solid cast, especially if they stick with the UK and Irish folk. And they're much cheaper. There's also some great Nordic talent, which would great for the Targs.

If this is going to be a long running series they're going to want to cast mostly no name actors for a variety of reasons anyways.

While I think they will be no name here in the states, there's a lot of high quality talent across the pond. I watch a lot of Euro series, and IMO it beats the hell out of US trash (I'm not talking about the good premium stuff).

This looks awesome, and it's even better that GRRM is very pleased with the first season of this from the comments I've seen, something of which he is not with HotD. I get it's all about the dollar signs, but these spinoffs would be so much better as 10-12 episode miniseries rather than drawn out into multiple seasons with filler episodes.

GRRM was happy with season one of HotD. He and Condal had their falling out after season two.

If you haven't already, and need a GOT-world fix, a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is absolutely worth a read.

No they are all older. He hasn't released any new ones since he stalled out with the main books. Although he supposedly has another one in the chamber ready to release once Winds is published.

I actually feel pretty bad for the guy tbh. It's clear he's stuck with trying to wrap everything up perfectly. It sucks because I think pretty much everyone would agree that he could get away with a few hand waves just to get characters in the right places to be able to get on with it but he just won't allow himself to do it. Writers/artist block is a bitch and I can imagine when you're as wealthy as George is that it would be almost impossible to break out of. There is no monetary incentive that can force him to jut get it over with, and he has basically unlimited distractions.

People have this idea that he just doesn't care and I don't think that's true at all. He cares TOO much. If he didn't care he would have just pumped out some crap ending with the help of ghost writers and raked in a shit ton of cash. Instead he has half his fanbase hating him and people coming up to him at conventions reminding him that he's going to die.

I love the last season though it was definitely ruahed, but it played out almost exactly at should have. It all made perfect sense, it was just to rushed.
