There's just no benefit to answering the question any other way imo.

Either he wants to go to NFL one day, and he believes in honesty, so he won't outright lie and say no.

Or he wants to be at Notre Dame long term, but the leverage of perceived NFL interest helps when renegotiating his contract and asking for concessions from admissions on transfers.

Or he genuinely doesn't know.

Saying yes is obviously bad, and outright saying no doesn't have many benefits either imo.

I get that. But his name has been very popular in NFL vacancy discussions. Did he seriously not think the media would ask him about that?
The way Horka asked it was a lose lose.
If he says no and goes to the NFL next year, the media will attack his integrity. If he’s says yes then all next season will be filled with constant speculation and be a bigger distraction than what it already is.

“I’m here to talk about the upcoming season and the amazing team I’m privileged enough to call our players. At this current moment, my entire focus is running it back and winning a national championship in 2026, and it will remain there until the job is complete.”

Doesn’t seem difficult

Coach Free talked to Ash and Coach Mason about Partridge. He'd been following him since Coach P was HC at FAU.

Then he would be openly implying that he’s gone after a national championship trophy.

Peppering him with NFL questions. MF definitely uncomfortable up there.

Also how does Tyler Dorka have credentials

You'd think ND media would have the intelligence to keep things focused on Notre Dame. Obviously you don't want them to be pravda or anything but you know what I mean

I actually have a lot of respect for Coach MF for not blowing smoke up our asses with "I'm going to be here for life BS". He's 40, he doesnt know what the future holds, he may have interest in the future. He was honest about it.

I honestly don't think we will blow out Wisconsin to bad because of the Fickell Freeman angle.. I just think Freeman is to classy for that

How many times did he say "Leave no doubt"? I think he understands the mission for 2026.

Can you imagine the message during Miami week?

Those boys will be ready to eat nails by game time.
I wouldn’t say shit. Just keep on playing all of the media clips. When it’s time to leave the locker room, say “violence” and open the door.

I think its going to be one of those deals where there isn't much he can do. Our back-ups are going to run the ball every play and still wind up in the endzone. MF isn't going to ask back-ups to play easy.

Given Freeman's competitive nature...

I don't think he gives a crap about Fickell's feelings. I dont think he'll call a timeout with 15 seconds left to try to get another touchdown, but I be surprised if he wanted his team to ease up for whatever reason.

I think the biggest differences for next year will be:
1. MF will let the 2nd team offense actually try to score and run an offense instead of running clock out in Q4s
2. MF will leave more starters in at end of games to prevent garbage time TDs against us
3. CJ will be dialed in and ready to roll from week 1 (not week 2)
4. Ash will be dialed in and ready to roll from week 1 (not week 4)

I don't expect us to run the ball as well as we did this year, but the O-line should be slight to legit upgrade barring injuries (again). Passing game should be as good or better than last year. Run defense should be as good if not better than last year (especially if we get Grey and Onye back). Pass defense should be absolutely elite. Kicking game should be improved (don't see how it couldn't be).

So we are going to be a hungrier and slightly better team than the one we ended this year with, which was a team I fully believe could have and maybe should have been a favorite to win a championship.

I get what you're saying, but they're both competitors and after this past season I don't see Coach Free leaving anything to chance even if it means doing it at the expense of his buddy.

Are they really buddies? Or did they just work together?

Yeah, I don't understand the how whipping someone's ass is so derogatory. Seems like a throwback to an era that doesn't exist anymore.
