This all seems reasonable (though isn’t Porter our Fields guy?) but also it really really depends on what conversations the staff has had with guys to date. I think they owe it to everyone to let them know whether or not they’re going to be trying to bring in competition for their position at the start of the transfer window, and pivoting this late in the process would be bad.As far as rocking the boat, I think that goes position by position:
QB: You could take a 1-and-done GT backup without rocking the boat
RB: too many high-ceiling guys waiting their turn.
WR: could still take a big bodied, Fields-type
OT/OG: I think you could take a 1-and-doner starter, but probably shouldn't
TE: : Same
On defense, after what we've already taken, I think only DT can really handle more bodies without causing issues. (There has to be a nickel on campus with all the options we have!)

Yeah, I really have my hopes up here now. This class is a home run if they add Gray, Brewu, and Graham.
Best part of the Brewu / Gray additions would be that they’d have multiple years of eligibility too. Figured out DT for 2 years with them.
Any player coming in with multiple years of eligibility will just have to be re-recruited to stay next year. Remember this is a double-edged blade.

No, we won't. Rev share is capped. Everything else has to come from the outside.Yeah but when we win the title we’ll have $34M extra to pay.
Hopefully they’re primarily looking for playing time, not just chasing the bag.Any player coming in with multiple years of eligibility will just have to be re-recruited to stay next year. Remember this is a double-edged blade.

It's a mix, right? Brewu is bag chasing--he already gets all of the snaps he could want at Pitt. The guys from the Ohios State and Alabamas may be partially chasing playing time, though hopefully if they're good enough to get it at ND they'd also be good enough to get it next year at their current schools.Hopefully they’re primarily looking for playing time, not just chasing the bag.

(I get that your post was tongue in cheek but I'm pointing it out because I feel like I've seen other posts that assume ND has control over its budget here).
Roster retention under Freeman has been very good. Significant contributors pretty much never enter the portal. This was probably the worst year of portal attrition under MF and ND's biggest loss was a rotational DE.Any player coming in with multiple years of eligibility will just have to be re-recruited to stay next year. Friendly reminder that the kids may not always be the ones. Agents can be greedy pricks (or uncles...)It's a mix, right? Brewu is bag chasing--he already gets all of the snaps he could want at Pitt. I don't think bag chasing is bad. These kids have an in demand skill set, a very very limited shelf life, and are the backbone of a billion dollar industry. They should get paid every cent they're worth.Friendly reminder that the kids may not always be the ones. Agents can be greedy pricks (or uncles...)
If it was really Justice Haynes as someone coded earlier, I'd say yes. Otherwise no for sure.As far as rocking the boat, I think that goes position by position:

Yes Gray the DTWho is wiltfong saying is visiting? Or is it the dt?
We could win the natty and then fold the program entirely and I can die a happy man. No one could tell me nothing ever againAny player coming in with multiple years of eligibility will just have to be re-recruited to stay next year. Remember this is a double-edged blade.
