Suffice to say a lot of posters here aren't in management. In management you learn about budgets, resource allocation, a department +/- margins real quick. In sum you quickly find out that budgets are real "things" To those not in management budgets are a flexible concept that NEVER really need to be squared.

What if turning those stones over results in current guys leaving? Still worth it? Guys who are starters don't want to get passed over. You know what you have and how they fit in within their position groups and the team as a whole. If you're going to change that up, there's a lot more to the equation than just money and potential talent.

Buddy I make 50k/year pre tax lmao. You know damn well there is actual real big money behind this program and if we aren't tapping into it to put together one of the most expensive rosters in the country while we have this open window then what are we even doing here? We are one of the top dogs in a day in college football where it's not being dominated by a Saban Alabama, Dabo Clemson, or Urban Ohio State. You're either in or you're out, and they can talk about being all in, but until they throw that money around, I will continue to be skeptical.

That last sentence is not indicative of my opinion on the current state of the program, either. I think that we are doing a wonderful job in asset retention and high school recruiting. I'm specifically talking about taking the biggest of swings in plug and play portal guys

Feels like a lot of QBs (and scouts) see the value in getting an additional year of game reps before going to the pros. I fully expect him to be back in 2027.

We aren't going to even be in the conversation there, just wondering hypothetically.

This may be the wrong answer, but no. Bringing in multiple CBs and WRs, and allegedly trying to get another RB already has us teetering on the “what the hell?” Line with current players Id imagine.

But I could be wrong

He'll have two full seasons and (hopefully) 28 games of experience. That's a lot more games than quite a few first overall picks had under their belts. He could absolutely regress in year two, but if that happens then none of this actually matters lol. If he has another outstanding season, he will not come back to college

Same. O line is not the group where I want us to rock the boat. We’re very solid without adding anybody, let’s not go for the guy that’s selling himself to the highest bidder.

Nope. The key thing at OL isn't talent as much as unit cohesion. By unit cohesion I mean 5 guys working as 1. RG knowing HOW RT and C are going to react when the OL call is wrong, BEFORE things start to breakdown. So I would rather have a less talented RT that knows the playbook and his unit as opposed to a marginally better T that knows neither playbook nor the other guys on the line.

agree, and to add to this DEPTH is way more important than top end talent. Safest bet in the world is that there’s going to be injuries on the offensive line, especially if we want to play 16 games next season, we need to preserve the two-deep.

I guess what I’m saying is that based on our best in country retention and the high end guys we’ve grabbed in the portal so far we obviously are throwing a lot of NIL money around, but it’s not infinite and we still have to allocate it wisely.

Since last year my theory has been that the deepest teams are the ones that have the best shot at winning the title for this very reason. We were notoriously banged up last season but OSU had a bunch of people down too. Fast forward to now and I'm amazed that both IU and Miami are essentially full strength. Better to be lucky than good I guess...
