I would have to imagine we can get him in the portal next year when he transfers after Heupel gets fired

1) Notre Dame must do a uniquely exceptional job of cultivating targets prior to the portal opening. I don't believe in compromising the university's fundamental principles with things like going to class. That won't work for everyone in this era but there is a large enough pool with enough groundwork done in advance.

2) Staff needs a more aggressive approach to the visit schedule and more transactional pitch in general

3) Always need to be raising funds / working donors in this environment. 24/7/365

ISD claiming portal recruits shocked ND expects them to go to class and doesn’t offer online courses
Knew that issue would be a likely problem with any portal guy with a decent shot of getting drafted.

There’s got to be a few guys that see a ND education as a positive and not a negative.

That isn’t new and ND had no trouble in the portal the previous cycles. Enough of the excuses.
See that’s what I believe. This is all just stupid excuses at this point. Everybody knows that Notre Dame does not offer online courses. Maybe we need a lesbian dance theory online options but that’s just not our thing yet.

And if that’s truly the case- short term ND does need to overpay so they go to class haha. Long term- keep repeating the 2026 class

Nd hasn't really taken many undergrad transfers before makes a lot more sense with a guy like Gilliam not being sure if the academics if he is there for multiple years

Them more it becomes about money the less it becomes about actual school. It’s basically minor league football for a lot of these guys. It’s NFL or Salesman at the local Chevrolet Dealership.

Assuming they don't land anyone good in the portal at Defensive Tackle, then they clearly need to just buy some of the best ones available out of High School, right? I mean, what's the alternative?

This portal is going to be a "what could have been". Typical for ND football lately.

We'll add some awesome pieces in Keeley and Mylan Graham, but that doesn't change the fact the middle is gutted. If there was ever a year to overpay to get just TWO DTs, this was it. If they needed $2M a piece, so be it, this is a championship roster and staff at every other position and the schedule is a CAKE.

And we'll get into November as paper tigers but I don't see how we stand up and that's assuming everyone stays healthy.

Since we are one of the few "schools" requiring actual classes, we probably need to pay more. It's basically an extra job duty.

If a kid doesn't want to come, no amount of money is going to change that.
