VanSumeren seems like a guy ND should be all over. MSU Graduate. Soon to be 3x Academic All Big 10, 2 year starter at MSU. Lost his entire redshirt freshman season to injury and might actually be a good candidate to be awarded a 6th year because he also redshirted as a freshman.

If ND whiffs on Marsh, I wouldn't mind taking a run at Ian Strong. Rutgers had two really good ones on a bad team.

Strong has a lot of Miles Boykin in him... Lacks great speed, but man is he big, physical, had excelleny hands and body control. Carr could do a lot of damage with Strong in the boundary.

I was expecting more news tbh, especially with how aggressive everyone thought ND would be in the portal.

By news do you mean immediate commitments? Because we've received reports of the following...

1. ND has their kicker locked up, it simply hasn't been announced yet.

2. ND's top WR target, Nick Marsh, is set to visit for 2 days, starting Jan 5th.

3. ND has reportedly been negotiating with a Big 10 DT behind the scenes and is in good position. That player is rumored to be Alex VanSumeren.

4. ND has set up a visit with another highly coveted DT prospect in Xavier Gilliam.

5. ND has a visit set up with the #1 CB / NB Jontez Williams from Jan 5th-7th.

All of that was announced on day 1/14 of the Portal being open. Curious what your expectations for today were?

Do they have a hip and groin orthopedist locked up with him?
Glad they have a kicker because Schmidt was not good last year. What happened to him? He seems to have been great in HS. We were thrilled when he made an extra point.

Kicking was one of a few things that would have hurt us in the playoffs.

ND has moved quietly the last several cycles and locked up several big name guys seemingly out of the blue. Considering they just pulled a NFL DL Coach, I’m not expecting anything different.
There will also be guys that don't announce they are jumping into the Portal on day 1, that are negotiating (through their agents) behind the scenes. If they get the price and situation they're looking for, they'll jump in and basically be a "done deal" to a particular school, but if they can't come to a deal, they'll just stick with school they're at.

Like you, I expect ND to close on a couple guys we're not even tracking.

He was much more known for his punting in HS as opposed to FG kicking.

If he has watched that Alabama offense the last month as a RB and he’s enticed by what he’s seen, he’s not smart enough to attend ND on any level
Especially any staff that continues to trot that terrible Hill out onto the field instead of Miller, Riley or anybody with a conscious.

He's a really good athlete so my guess is 247 and ON3 are banking on his high potential.
Athleticism and how much he flashed as a speed rusher. O-Lineman could barely get a hand on him, he had 13 pressures in just over 100 snaps.

He got hurt and never really recovered. Same thing that happened with Jeter the prior season.

Only difference is that Jeter got healthy just in time for the playoff. Schmidt never got the opportunity to kick while healthy.
