I'm not angry. I'm a level of annoyed and confused that isn't typical of a popular coach announcing a contract extension, I will give you that.

Here's me typing nicely, with sugar on top: can you or anyone else confirm that Marcus Freeman had a formal interview with the Giants, Titans or any other NFL team? Entertaining a conversation means willing to talk. It doesn't mean talking, and it certainly is not a formal interview.

He announced a contract extension and you're being "realistic" talking about he's eventually going to leave for the NFL. Like the new contract doesn't matter because it's actually a good thing for us as fans and for the program overall. Yeah, it's kind of annoying, and I'm surely not alone. The initial reaction to this news is basically, "Well, it doesn't matter. He's going to the NFL and he's probably staying for one more year and even if he doesn't we have to go through this every year."

It's beyond pussy. Full stop.

They should have let him walk. Or done nothing.

I think there are people here, today, that want him to leave. Either they want to be right or it's some kind of weird sadomasochism thing with being a sports fan I don't really understand.

Dude you are full on delusional. He was in communication before coming back and turning them down. That means he entertained and considered the possibility of leaving. His answers in interviews about leaving are carefully worded responses about it being an “honor” and how it represents how well the program is performing.

It’s not pussy to read the tea leaves and think his wording of “run it back in 2026” implies he is taking things year to year. Nobody that is noticing these specific things he is doing wants him to leave, or wants to be right, or is getting off on wanting this to fall apart. It’s just about noticing the pattern and not being ignorant about it.

I think it's a normal reaction for people who care about something as much as many care about ND football. Especially the type of sickos who spend their time/energy on a messageboard.
Scared to lose what you already have and are going to continue to have for another seven years is normal?

Yeah, I think it's me. I'm definitely the moron.

Yes, I'm full on delusional and stupid.

There's really no point to any of this. I'll gently fuck off.

Are you being intentionally obtuse?

You know damn well that isn't a sure thing. How long was the extension he signed last year? Yet he still had to announce "run it back".

This is fantastic news!

It reads like Freeman is going to treat this year-to-year. Hopefully the challenges and results keep him here another 5 years.

I know it isn't a sure thing, but I also know that the air we've wanted cleared for the last few weeks just got cleared and I'm happy that it's done. Yet somehow I'm an asshole.

Listen, at this point, I'm willing to be and believe whatever it takes for this conversation to be over with. It's utterly ridiculous and I'm good. Hope everyone gets whatever it is from all of this being a Notre Dame fan thing that they truly want.

I would say “sad and dumb” is a fair summary of the board’s collective resting state
I'm convinced that I'm the crazy one at this point. At the very least, we worry about a year from now a year from now, but not even enjoying the moment now?

Have a moment of joy. It's sports. Life is serious enough. This is good.

Let's gooooo!!! Super pumped! Now time to get to work in the Portal and retaining our keys guys. Silver lining is the guys get more time in the S&C program than last year. Let's see what kind of gains we can get.

Side note: Not surprised at all with Coach Free coming back. But happy it is out of the way so we can get to work! I hope he had a great vacation with the family. The season is a grind and coaching is a huge sacrifice for the whole family. The time off and together is beyond precious.

Honestly I don't even care about the future past next year. This next season is our best chance to win since I can honestly remember. This next month is huge to put the roster together to fill the gaps and then the foot needs to be on the gas for the next 12 months

Nobody is unhappy or not enjoying the moment. I think everyone is just coming to terms with the reality that he won’t be here for much longer if he keeps maintaining this level of success, so we need to strike ASAP before he leaves.

You are the one that got all upset and starting calling people pussies for acknowledging what is right in front of our faces. I get you want to act ignorant that

1. Bevacqua acknowledged its year to year
2. Freeman is getting restructured contracts every year
3. It has come out that Freeman was in communication with multiple teams
4. Freeman himself worded his return in a specific way that implies he is year to year
5. Freeman himself words his answers about leaving extremely carefully

Noticing this pattern is not the same as being unhappy or a pussy or a sadomasochist, you’re literally having a breakdown over it.

Almost everything is year to year now.. just the nature of tech and capitalism... can you imagine the GLEE from sports media if Freeman left?? Good Lord

Is it just a one year extension or is it multiple years where if Freeman does leave the team that hires him has to pay a ton of money to ND in order to get him to make the jump?

Teams are going to come after MF hard every year. The guys a unicorn and a natural leader. I hope he brings us a title before his time here comes to an end. There’s also a lot of positioning going on here, his agent isn’t stupid. He’s got this operation running smoothly and should be even better when the new facility opens. Glad he’s our coach.

It’s funny a certain poster hasn’t been here yet, but he’d bring a rumor from the 247 boards that the Freeman family watched “The Little giants”

He’s still looking at himself in the mirror, practicing a straight face when talking about Kyle Whittingham being a “home run hire”

That's why the admin. need to pay him at the highest level possible, along with his premier coaching staff (Denbrock, Mickens, Seider ....).

I don’t think it’s just money for him. I think it’s money for the assistants, money to continuously upgrade the facilities, the money for the NIL and portal and open relationship with acceptance office.
