This has basically been my jumping off point with anyone who's been trying to debate me in my personal life. I simply ask them to explain why they believe the CFP committee is capable of getting that right and the other 15 polls got it wrong (including Vegas). They almost unanimously will defer to H2H vs Miami. It's a dead giveaway that they haven't really given it much thought and are just relying on whatever ESPN is saying about the topic.

Not only that, the II pod openly gave Bevacqua crap about going after the CFP committee at his presser Tuesday.

Also, almost every single podcast I listened to last week from our beat had the same tune “Miami getting in was the right call.” What are we doing here? ND was the better team for 5 weeks in the rankings, every single ranking system but the CFP has ND ranked in front of Miami.

I’m really surprised that Brice has been quiet because he went through the mock committee process and has been plugged in the most with the rankings. He’s not one to hold back, so this makes me think maybe they’ve been instructed to hold off?

He said on the II podcast that it was about "politics," and that he believes if UVA had beaten Duke, ND would have been in. The head-to-head argument was a red herring to ensure than an ACC team got in. I believe this is right, given what Phillips apparently knew and said in advance (that one ACC team would get in). In my view, both Miami and ND deserved to be in. After all, OU beat Bama and both of them got in.

Or Brice would like to maintain his status among contacts. Pretty common quid pro quo agreement within journalism. Brice going scorched earth on the committee would undoubtedly get him black listed. So self preservation kicks in and he stays quiet or deflects. Just speculation.

This is exactly what Bevacqua should have presented during his press tour last week. Just full on PowerPoint presentation.

Just truly incredible what the committee did:

This is incredible and needs to be sent out far and wide. Every single media member needs to read this as mandatory reading and then ask themselves why ND, despite all of this, still got left out. The answers are obvious, yet no one wants to get into that snake pit, apparently.

Much of ND’s beat coverage seems to be embarrassed about ND fan reaction and isn’t particularly interested in ND’s case. This is in stark contrast to the overt advocacy of every other team’s affiliated reporters and analysts.

I uploaded this into Google Notebook LM and it created a podcast for me. It's something I plan on sharing with everyone I know. But first....I need to add a few more bullet points to the discussion: Lack of recusal, ESPN ownership of the CFP rankings show/Playoff games/SEC/ACC/Big12 among a few other things. Does anyone have any good source material on that? Idk if I can upload Brady Quinn's youtube talks but he's talked about a lot of this. Any links would be helpful.

Yeah, Brice seemed adamant about that point. As a fan, I tend to think ND was screwed either way. The way it unfolded, the CFP was going w/ “you can’t punish teams…err Bama…for getting non-competitive in their CCG”. Had UVA won, they’d be in & then the CFP would’ve buckled to pressure regarding H2H & Miami gets in too. As ND fans, we like to think it was sinister & a way for ESPN/SEC to show ND they better join the cartel or else. I think we also have to consider that the CFP committee are fallible humans who at the end of the day are people pleasers who are going to follow which way the wind blows. I suspect it was a combo of these things but we’ll never know & regardless of the mountain of evidence that ND was one of the most deserving teams, you’ll never convince the casuals & the haters.

Another part of the problem is that the selection Committee has been talking out of both sides of their mouths regarding CCGs. My take is that they won't give a clear answer on how much they matter because they want to reserve the right to have them matter on a case-by-case basis. I get that to a certain extent. Duke should not get any Championship consideration because they won the ACC. But the Committee can't come out and say that CCGs don't matter at all because teams will either rest their star players and tank the game or try to opt out of the game entirely (if the conference allows it). People keep saying Notre Dame gets screwed/punished for not being in a conference but I can make an argument that Alabama almost got screwed by being in one. If 'Bama wasn't in the CCG and Georgia bitch-slapped around some other SEC team like Ole Miss or Texas, 'Bama would have been golden, not having to risk their ranking in a meaningless game. Instead, the Tide got pantsed and the Committee had to twist itself into pretzel-shaped logic to justify keeping them in the rankings so their conference affiliation didn't hurt their chances. It's a little abstract, but I can make the case.

The problem is with a political committee there is no objective criteria because they set out with predetermined outcomes in mind and construct post hoc justifications for their actions regardless of whether they're consistent or logical or not.

In this instance, I like that he focused on B1G vs SEC/ACC/ESPN. No mention of ND which is unnecessary in this critique. He lays it out perfectly & throws in the caveat that even if it’s not true, it’s shaky enough to lead to conspiracy theories & question the CFP credibility.

It has been quite the nicely packaged narrative that keeps most unthinking folks falling right in line with it, and continues to hide the real story about the AL CCG screw over and the bigger ?s about the integrity of the CFP committee, the SEC bias, and the influence of the ESPN $

There is a part of me that feels like there is a committee member out there upset with all the ND hate because they "did everything they could to get ND in, including ranking Miami #18, and all ND needed was Virginia to come through".

I know for a lot of people involved in CFB 1993 isn’t relevant to them but I lived it and ND beat FSU in the game of the century and while FSU made it close we dominated FSU kind of like Miami looked better than us this year in our H2H game. When it came time to determine the national champ they gave it to FSU with the same record and a loss to ND H2H. This never gets mentioned but should. ND looked like the team that improved over the season. Not Miami.

Correct. This has been memory holed by OUR fans and media for some reason.

As a fan, that month was AS MUCH tumult as I have ever felt as a sports fan. Ever. It beats out this situation by 10x. We were absolutely screwed over by everyone involved, and yes, ESPN was in the middle of all if it then, too.

I have always claimed that natty, will always claim that natty, and go off like a motherfucker any time anyone brings it up. That was the single worst heist in the history of college sports. And all of it just slob on Bobby Bowdens knob. It was fucking disgusting and disgraceful.

This is exactly why people are pissed ND skipped out. They don't give a single fuck about the Pop Tarts Bowl, they simply wanted the optics of this so they could laugh at ND. Deprived of that, they lash out.
