One of the better autobiographies I've read.

Just wrapped up reading this, really well-done, but kind of a scary read for those who have kids nearing those teenage years. Lot of peer-pressure to get into smart phones and social media at early ages and it's pretty much proven to be a mental health killer.

Pivoting back to fiction and taking my first journey through Middle Earth. Started the Hobbit last night. I'm an avid fan of the LOTR Trilogy, watch the extended movies at least once a year. Figured it's time to read the books which are always better than the film adaptations.

I'm jealous that you're reading LOTR for the first time. Enjoy my friend.

Thanks man. I'm already not surprised why people were hating on the Hobbit trilogy. For one, it's not a long book at all and they tried to drag it out into a trilogy? I only got through a couple of chapters before the eyelids grew heavy, but the movie adaptation of the three trolls and Bilbo was completely inaccurate. I can see the writing on the wall.

The movies were a complete money grab with a couple of well done scenes mixed in. There is so much fluff that doesn't occur in the books or is a giant leap of faith attempting to fill in some things that happen outside of the score of the story.

Really odd timing, I just requested this audiobook last night. Hope you share your thoughts
His childhood was dominated by his father grooming him to be a pro tennis player. He hated the sport from a very early age. Legitimately hated it. He struggled emotionally and academically as a kid.

He was seen more as a rock star than a tennis player due to his hair style and image. The commercial he made for Canon with the slogan "Image is Everything" essentially ruined him. His struggles with depression were real. He was ranked number one in the world, married Brooke Shields and was completely unhappy.

I thought he admitted his faults and failures openly in the book. Doesn't make excuses or shy away from the things he did wrong or could have done better. I thought it was interesting how he channeled his maturity and professionalism later in his career into philanthropy.

His commentary on Pete Sampras and Michael Chang is pretty hilarious.

Claims to have always had a crush on Steffi Graf, winds up marrying her.

I thought it was a very self aware autobiography, and there are definitely some things in there that I won't spoil. You'll be stunned for sure.

Plenty of adults aren't fond of their jobs, but it's rare to hear an athlete outright admit that they hate it, especially one who was the best in the biz at one time or another.

Imagine being such a great athlete that you could be excellent at a sport while hating it? Look forward to listening.

Super less serious and lots of fun is an audiobook my friend introduced me to Dungeon Crawler Carl. I can’t go 10 minutes without cracking up listening. Not everyone’s type of book but if your looking for fun try it out.

A podcast I listen to brought up those books. Might have to give them a shot.

Just finished the Lesser Dead and wow, what an ending!! Highly recommend for anyone into vampires or horror or 70s New York,… it’s a great narrative take on all three. I’ve read a few books by Christopher Buehlman now and each has been fantastic,… just ordered another one.

The Hobbit reads like one long bedtime story (which is basically how Tolkien wrote it).

There is so much cool, nerdy, more lore-heavy stuff in the trilogy that should be of interest to someone who likes the extended versions of the film… but even the extended version of Return of the King doesn’t touch on much of Aragorn’s actual journey from the books, from what I remember.

I bought the whole saga last summer,… it was far shorter than anticipated,… I will get around to it one day.

Have you read any Joe Abercrombie yet? First law is a good time. Also red rising might be up your alley. It and Sun Eater seem to be the biggest series coming to a close in the past few years

I highly recommend it. It’s seven books in and I have read 4, so far amazing and wild. The third is when it really just takes the top off. Also the Books are just as good as the audio book but the audiobook is great for long car rides with passengers.
