Just from how Freeman seems wired, this will motivate him more than anything to stay. I'd be more worried about him leaving if we won a title and he felt he had nothing left to prove at this level (even then, I don't think he would automatically leave or anything).

He is very aware of the ethics of leaving at this point. It would touch a very raw nerve for his players and coaches. Professionals with high ethical standards are hyper aware of the impact of their choices. Based on the character he has demonstrated so far, I think supporting his team matters to him more than money and fame.

Agreed. There is a competitive fire in there that is second to none. The kid gloves are off, and he is about to go full scorched earth.

Today sucked for numerous reasons, but when we finally win a natty, we may look back on today as a turning point. ND, throughout all levels, is realizing what it will take to overcome the systemic biases against them. Admin and trustee support will be elevated (undergrad transfers maybe?). NIL support from boosters will reach levels we have never seen before.

Cope Diary, Part 2:

This team will play like OSU after the Michigan flag planting debacle, but for an entire season.

Buy a calendar you can X days off leading up to take off, because this is gonna truly be something.

MF is quiet right now because he knows anything he says won’t come out the right way, and more importantly, because an Axe Murderer doesn’t declare his intentions before chopping heads off.

Honest question.

Why would the Giants hire him? He’s still pretty green.

Last year was great and all but he lost to the two toughest opponents this year and his first two seasons had some real wtf moments.

I would think the NFL would want a coach with a bit more seasoning particularly given how many good/great college coaches have crashed and burned once they stepped into NFL head coaching jobs as of late.

I would think Cignetti to the NFL makes more sense.

I’ll start this by saying I’m not an NFL fan, hardly watch games outside the Super Bowl.

And, I guess I can see the “advantages” of the NFL (no recruiting, shorter calendar year, no booster bs, no playoff committee) and I also get it’s the top rung on the ladder.

But its just such a stale and corporate product that in my opinion, doesn’t match the passion of CFB. That’s why I don’t watch it.

And based on what we know of MMFF, the college game seems like a better fit. More passion, moulding young men, being a teacher, relationships with family and players, representing something bigger than yourself, team glory over personal acclaim.

Why would he leave that? To be a corporate CEO?

Agree with all of this. CFB is by no means GreenPeace, but watching the NFL feels like you're cheering on big business and not a whole lot else.

He also seems like a guy who cares a lot about his legacy. With a few exceptions, the clock starts ticking toward being fired the second an NFL coach is hired, and once they are fired, they are damaged goods. He functionally has a lifetime contract at ND. I don't think he wants to give that up until he feels like there is nothing left to accomplish here (or the OSU job opens, and even then, I don't know that it's a foregone conclusion he would leave).

Right? And how’d the NFL work out for the greatest college coach ever? It’s a completely different product and game that I’m not sure aligns with MMFFs strengths as a leader of young men.

Well the reason that "greatest college coach ever" struggled in the NFL is because all teams have the same salary cap...

All the more reason for MF to not leave ND.
