Someone else posted a tweet, but it's so obvious how different ND people come across in these segments. Sark and Cristobal crying like babies and Marcus, Love, and Price coming across as humble and saying all of the right things. I'm sure Pete looks the same in a few minutes
Pete stumping for 16 teams. 5 automatic and 11 at large

12 is good if its just rank and file. We can even bring back the old BCS style 50% poll/50% computer rankings. But autobids need to go away.

Completely dismisses Miami. "They've said the entire time we're being compared to Alabama. Don't see how we can drop two spots and Miami can go up two spots when neither of us is playing. We're planning on being 9th or 10th"
I like the confidence. I think there must be back channel communication with ND about the reasons for movement of Bama and ND. I think they've received some assurances based on potential outcomes and they likely think they're all reasonable.

It's been a long week.
The best ND team of my lifetime may be left out of playing for a title so teams like JMU, North Texas, Tulane and Duke or Virginia can get a participation trophy.

I need Sunday to just get here.
My bad.

The current system is broken, political and biased. A change is needed. Any change from the current system will certainly benefit ND.

Pete is savvy and I think you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Pete, Marus, and our two RB's have acquitted themselves with class and stated our case in a logical way, while pointing out our entire body of work and only referencing other teams (Alabama) to point out where we've been ranked, but not to undermine them or talk shit. We certainly didn't "take the highest of roads" and start trashing other team's schedules. Pete seems plugged in and confident. Miami seems desperate.

Yeah, if we expand to 16, then I'm fine with the autobids. Tbh if a ND team can't find itself in the top 11 at large teams then we probably lost at least 3 games and don't deserve a bid.

I agree with many to just 86 the auto bids but it may take that concession to get the 16-team format approved.

And right, who cares as a top 11 at large teams is plenty of runway for ND; as you state, if we've lost 3 or more games, we likely not a true CFP contender anyway.

As I stated before, there would be so much less drama and a lot more willingness for top P4 teams to play more tough OOC games (Cry baby LR already stated as much re: the ND/USC game with his constant stumping for the auto bids) if we go to a 16-team field.

And simply reward the top 4 ranked teams with seeding against the bottom 4 teams (#s 13 to 16). Done!

Also, conference championships would almost certainly have to go with another round of playoff games.

As they should. They're pointless. And who wants the possibility of GA and 'bama playing each other 3 times in a season? Talk about taking the air out of the CFP games and the excitement CFB is trying to bring to them.

Bama and UGA playing each other three times would take even more air out of the regular season. Those matchups need to matter--it's what makes cfb special.

Fuck the committee deciding who goes where. Let the teams call their shots. How great would it be if on Sunday #1 Ohio State got to send a representative to a podium to pick which team out of the other 15 that had qualified they want to select to come face them in Columbus? Georgia is on the clock next they get 15 minutes before their representative selects.

Can anyone explain the discrepancy in the odds for ND to make the playoffs yes/no & yes only?

ND is -370 yes, +270 no to make the playoffs when "no" is an option

But we're -550 to make it if "yes" only

Every other team with odds listed has the same "yes" odds for the yes/no option & yes only option except ND (-370 vs -550)

They are especially pointless if there are no real stakes for the loser. You can't just give teams mulligans for CCGs. But also I agree it's not necessarily fair to penalize teams for losing CCGs when a lot of the other teams in the mix aren't playing them to begin with. The only argument for them (and biggest obstacle to doing away with them) is TV money, of course.
So I'll be curious to see what the ratings are for Ohio State-Indiana tomorrow, in particular.

From an entertainment/fan perspective, the autobids and current system are shit. Who the hell wants to watch Virginia or North Texas get destroyed by Oregon in the first round? Without autobids, Bama never jumps ND, and if BYU loses, the first round could be: Texas at Oregon, Miami at Ole Miss, Bama at A&M, ND at Oklahoma.

Instead, we’re staring at North Texas @ Oregon and Virginia @ Ole Miss as the best case scenario. At least that version still gives us ND in the playoffs and a couple of watchable games.

But if BYU and Duke win, the first round could be JMU @ Oregon, North Texas @ Ole Miss, and BYU @ A&M - a complete pile of shit that nobody wants to watch.

First round should be the best weekend of college football and instead it could be unwatchable.
