I just think this is very obvious and smart move on everyone's part due to Carr highly likely to being gone after the 26 season.

This gives all 3 (hebert,Grubbs, Jarrard) the ability to have a full fall season under their belts, learn the playbook, learn how to prepare under Carr, get some in game snaps, some scout team reps, etc. Then all 3 are ready to roll for spring 27 practice and compete for the starting job.

What was he supposed to say?

“This guy is ass and we made a mistake”?
what is he supposed to say? "The qb we took has made little strides and stinks"
Marcus doesn't have habit of disingenuous talk . When asked about QB recruiting he quickly states Grubbs is "as talented a player as we've evaluated in high school quarterbacks". Of course he is going to be complimentary in this context, but seemed authentic in expressing they really like what they see in him.

Are you sure? In August, he spoke VERY highly of the defensive tackles. We quickly found out the DTs were not very good at all. In their defense, they’ve improved to “they’re okay” category.

Rubio is deserved of such praise. Dawson has been as advertised. Hughes has been better than advertised.

Literally the best two OLs in CFB running over Hinish is not indicative of the DTs failing to meet the hype.

He said they were better than some groups that had legit NFL talent. In this group, Rubio is the only one that might make a practice squad.

Let him come. Better to have him work under Gino than a HS coach. Learn the system, refine his mechanics and adjust to the culture.

I’d rather he continue to develop with Gino. He’s not enrolling early to play now.

I think this is very telling of the staff’s opinion of Grubbs.

I don't mean developing just as a qb. As a young man, socially, academically, maturity wise. His brain needs another year to develope.

But if he really wants to do it, I guess you need to support it.

Welllll, Freeman did state Hinish was the best interior DL in fall camp, and proceeded to start and play him a ton in potential running situations vs Miami and A&M. That assessment hurt ND along with Hobbs.

Yeah, looking back, Freeman basically had no clue what he had in personnel

I think you're serious and pretty much agree.

Miami and A&M had the most athletic WRs we'd play all season and we started and played the slowest individuals in our secondary (Stroman, Hobbs, Gray). Just moronic and hopefully doesn't cost us a chance at a championship this year.

Gray was going to start, even I get that, but not getting Tae ready to start from day 1 and having someone else instead of hobbs as smith's back up are head scratchers that cost us at least the A&M game. To me, the team wasn't ready as a whole to win the miami game, so i'm ok with that loss. The team was ready to beat and much better than A&M, but coaching and officials prevented that.

Then playing hinish a ton vs power Olines after he was just thrown around like a rag doll vs PSU and OSU his last 2 games. Ugh.

They would likely rather have Jarrard, Grubbs and Hebert back up Carr in 2026 as well as those three compete for the job in 2027 than find a transfer QB. It doesn’t have to be an indictment on Grubbs as everyone rushes to make it. It’s an indictment on the prospect of a transfer QB to replace Minchey.
While I like having 3 QB's in the room from a developmental stand point, I gotta say that I dont like any of them as backups.

I wonder if they hated how Grubbs' "QB guru" trainer affected his development and are trying to avoid a similar step back here
That guy is a total clown. I clocked him from the moment he opened his mouth.

I think this could be a positive development for the QB room.

My guess is K Minchey is leaving at end of year.

And the ND staff likes Jarrard more than Grubbs. May the best man win...

If Carr leaves after next season, I really don’t see a world in which we’re NOT taking a transfer QB for 2027.

If Carr leaves its because he has played great which means we are up by 35 at half time a lot so Teddy gets a lot of game time and is very good.

Again supporting the common belief that the staff didn't necessarily love Grubbs' development since his commitment.
It might be part of it, but I think a larger part is that they probably put the feelers out for a roster spot style transfer at QB and didn't love their options.
Plus as others have mentioned, if Carr has the year we all think he is capable of next year it's better to have Jarrad in the system for a year before the QB battle in 2027.

I haven’t read this thread recently, but wasn’t Teddy struggling? He might need another year of high school.

Countpoints: he's older than many in his grade, he can expedite his NIL earnings while getting a year of college football prep and starting his 5 for 5 clock. Waiting a year in high school has some risk associated with it too.

Definitely up to the recruit and their families but I don't fault the staff for floating the idea because it's worthy of consideration.

If a QB is looking to transfer, most likely it's because they want to play and not be a backup. I can't see anyone who would want to come to ND with Carr already locked in.

The low success rate of the QBs that reclassify is down to the fact that reclassifying is a thing that a lot of headcases do chasing NIL.
Teddy does not seem like a headcase at all so he is an exception to that and there has not been talk about NIL so that will not apply to him. Get him in.

Shouldn't be surprised
You guys remember the Carr 4 23 shirt picture right?
They've tried this move before.
I'm cool with it. Let Grubbs and Teddy duke it out and also get 2027 going again. The more QBs the more competition

Could this also be a sign that ND believes Herbert may enter the Portal?
