We have earned some benefit of the doubt. There is another factor that the bedwetters are missing...
Notre Dame started out slow last year with that horrible loss to NIU in game two and then went on a tear that took them all the way to the championship game
Since we did it once, no reason why we cannot do it again and I think that is another factor the Committee is looking at.
And living in the West most of my life, BYU fans act like their program is Bama tier because of it.BYU’s lone NC was when they went undefeated in the WAC & got matched up w/ a .500 Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl. They squeaked by scUM & got the ring.
You’d put them behind UVA? Thats rough. No offense to the Ole Miss players I know it's not really fair but if they're not dropped to the 11 seed with what appears to be a first time play caller and head coach I think that's wrong. Vegas seems to think it makes a difference so it should be considered. Honestly I think they should be locked in at the 11 seed and the 12 goes to the group of 5 winner.
It really makes too much sense. Can the ACC not simply dictate Miami takes Duke's place in the conference championship? Who exactly would complain?Shame on the ACC for not putting stipulations in their conference bylaws to supersede teams who may qualify for CCG but too many losses to qualify for the CFP (like Duke). It would benefit all parties if Miami was in their CCG. Not to mention, they’re the only team from the ACC worthy of the CFP. I don’t want ND joining a conference w/ bylaws set up like that b/c ND could be in Miami’s shoes.

Fair but the lack of foresight from the powers that be incl Jim Philips; reflects poorly on their leadership. Hopefully, they learn from this year and amend the rules for qualification but that doesn’t help Miami this year.As a sportsman I think it's gross to change rules for qualification (effective immediately) when you already had a system in place.
Nobody is throwing away that tradition because it happens once. Now, if it happens several times over the course of a few years ...I know Bevacqua and MF have said they favor the football program’s independence but let’s just say worst case scenario if nothing breaks our way and we actually get left out of the CFP this year is that enough to have serious discussions about joining a conference? To be clear, I’m not even saying a like the idea but I’m just curious what some of you think.
Missing the CFP this year would be devastating (at least very disappointing) IMHO.
Then why even have CCG in the first place? I think they get rid of them in the next two years anyway.Shame on the ACC for not putting stipulations in their conference bylaws to supersede teams who may qualify for CCG but too many losses to qualify for the CFP (like Duke). The lack of foresight came around when every conference decided they need 16-20 teams.Fair but the lack of foresight from the powers that be incl Jim Philips; reflects poorly on their leadership. I’ll say this, I know college football has always had a bunch of subjectivity. Bowl games, polls, etc.No offense to the Ole Miss players I know it's not really fair but if they're not dropped to the 11 seed with what appears to be a first time play caller and head coach I think that's wrong. Fat boy Fallica has been on a tear this afternoon posting stats that accidentally make ND look great
This is surprising to me. Vegas essentially is saying Bama is a lock regardless of the SECCG result, which means they would have to jump us this week which would go against what they have done the last few weeks. Last night's games did nothing to improve their metrics at all.Draft Kings does not have Bama listed anymore.

For non-bettors, this means ND has an 80% chance of getting in, Miami 15% chance

People have been bitching about it this morning, but this is exactly why the Mountain West does their tie breaker based on analytics, to avoid a situation where their best team gets fucked out of the conference title game and maximize their ability to try and get a autobid. It's not perfect as 8-4 Boise ended up in the title game (and gets to host and will likely beat UNLV), but they at least had the forethinking to do this. The ACC doesn't seem to have the ability think more than a few seconds into the future.Fair but the lack of foresight from the powers that be incl Jim Philips; reflects poorly on their leadership. No other sport has a voting process for their playoffs like CFB (other than I suppose, college basketball) though. It's totally fair to objectively evaluate that a team that lost it's HC and it's offensive playcaller is no longer among the 12 best teams in the country. Especially when said team is already in the 20s in overall talent composition and overperformed their potential in part based on a rather easy schedule and having great offensive coaching. Do I think they'll drop them all the way out? No, but I think they could look at it and move them down out of a hosting gig.I’ll say this, I know college football has always had a bunch of subjectivity. Bowl games, polls, etc.
With that said, I think that if they’re going to have a playoff, which is here and will continue, the. Something like what you say is wrong IMO. See my other post about how no other “league” punishes a team making the playoffs for injuries, coaches, etc. Yet here we are, clamoring for a team to drop spots while also happy there is a playoff because it’s supposed to be a more objective way to crown a champion.
That’s just me though.

I gotcha, that makes sense. I imagine it might get put back up after Tuesday because that ranking will be so consequential.I don’t take it as that. Fanduel for example has OU and Ole Miss odds which are at ridiculous prices. I think they just truly don’t know where to make a market on it.
I just think, much like the whole Miami/ND thing, even though we are all ND fans, what’s the point then, right? I mean, I know there’s a fuck ton of nuance with comparing Miami and ND, but I just have a real hard time swallowing the pill that a bunch of humans can say, hey you EARNED this ranking based on what we saw all year long, but now… fuck you because your coach is an absolute rat and troll.People have been bitching about it this morning, but this is exactly why the Mountain West does their tie breaker based on analytics, to avoid a situation where their best team gets fucked out of the conference title game and maximize their ability to try and get a autobid. it will take multiple years of being left out for us to make a move.I know Bevacqua and MF have said they favor the football program’s independence but let’s just say worst case scenario if nothing breaks our way and we actually get left out of the CFP this year is that enough to have serious discussions about joining a conference? They have to be right? The backend of last week’s ranking basically all lost. There’s 5 spots for Navy to fill 1. I would think it should and will happen.Another data point to consider - If Navy is ranked (as they are in the AP and Coaches poll), then we eviscerated a team ranked pretty much the same as GT and Mizzou 49-10.
That win would be the biggest win by any team over a ranked team this year. If they truly believed Navy / Mizzou / GT were equals, that would matter, a lot. Realistically they aren’t capable of truly believing that despite where they rank them.
