My biggest concern is how that loss effects ND's resume. We were getting a lot of mileage out of playing A&M to a one point game.

We are still, without a doubt, one of the five top teams in the country. Hope the committee agrees.

Hope so tooQ If SC beats UCLA as expected, Pitt takes down miami(Which I think is realistic), and Navy handles Army in a couple of weeks(again expected), then ND will be 3-2 against top 25 teams and 3-0 since their early losses. I know it is surprising since our schedule appeared so weak, but Im not sure there are many if any teams that will have faced 5 top 25 teams at season's end and have a winning record.

The idea of six of the twelve playoff teams and five of the seven at large teams being from the same conference is repellent to me.
Hopefully the committee agrees.

Obviously, this doesn’t apply to Notre Dame, but if Texas is left out - and they absolutely should in my opinion - you’ve got to start to worry about teams shutting down their OOC scheduling. Sarkesian made a good point regarding the Ohio State game. Had they played UTEP instead of Ohio State, they’re sitting at 10-2 and are in the CFB Playoff. I don’t like it one bit and l love the big OOC matchups (especially home and homes), but you gotta start to wonder, what’s the point?

The point is that had they won against Ohio State and lost to Florida, they would be easily in. You get credit for winning those big games, you don't get a playoff spot for the bravery of scheduling them lol.

His point is if Texas was 10-2 with losses to Georgia and Florida but wins against A&M and Oklahoma, there's a high chance they're in the Playoff. There was no point in scheduling Ohio State - they should've just scheduled a cupcake instead

I don't see the point of scheduling challenging out of conference matchups if you're in the SEC or B1G

Oh, I get it (and I hate it), but it’s going to happen. Especially with the 9-game conference schedule. Teams are going to cower and opt to play directional schools. There’s too much money involved and the whole goal is to get in the Playoffs.

Would they even be in right now if they had scheduled UTEP? Their resume would look less impressive than Alabamas still I think.

Florida is 2-8 against FBS teams and one of those wins is against Texas.

Yes, but if they just take care of business against a terrible Florida team they actually get credit for the close loss to OSU like ND is getting credit for close losses. The OSU game is not their problem - the Florida loss is.

That's just not true. Texas is in the playoff if they're 10-2 with losses to Georgia and Florida. They'd be slotted ahead of Oklahoma and Alabama

I would be very interested in how the committee would compare Texas in your scenario versus Texas with only losses to Georgia and OSU. In your scenario I think ND is still above Texas - in my scenario Texas is above ND.

But is that the issue? I think the issue is losing to Florida plain and simple. If everyone continues to play cupcakes, we are gonna see a lot more 10-2 teams than there are playoff spots . So, not sure how that would help to shut down oos scheduling... If anything, scheduling a tough opponent is probably looked as a positive. Any other 2 loss team with a loss to Florida probably wont get in either.

(1) I’m not sure he’s right. There are several two loss SEC teams that are on the playoff bubble at the moment. Texas has higher highs than them, but it also has lower lows.

(2) even if he’s right this year, really hard to say in advance what you’ll need. Texas A&M, for example, should finish above Ole Miss almost entirely off the strength of their win against us. Not the SEC, but BYU is probably wishing they’d played a quality team instead of Portland state.”

I think it would be optimal for the committee to clearly say that they reward OOC wins more and punish OOC losses less than comparably hard in conference wins and losses, but it can’t be entirely risk free. So, here, really good argument if Texas has 2 losses, but that loss to Florida is really the anchor around its neck.

Still, we’re leaning a lot on the eye test now and Texas’s eye test argument real…no question they could win if they get in.

They beat A&M and Oklahoma. I think that would carry a lot of weight

Is the eye test real though? Not too long ago they should have lost to Msst. How short is the committee's memory? They also eked out a win vs Kentucky the week before Msst.

As a Notre dame fan though, I strongly agree with Sark that teams should not be punished for OoC losses. ND goes 0–12? Put us in bitches, or do you want us to stop scheduling out of conference games?

They aren’t really being punished for their loss to OSU, though. They’re being punished for being creamed by Georgia and losing to Florida. If they’d played Ohio week 1 instead they’re probably on the same position.
