Yes. We need atm to win
What will that do for us?
IMO unless you’ve won your conference championship you should not get in with 3 losses and a most recent one just shows you are not a top team that deserves a 3rd mulligan.
When they decide who makes the playoffs how many 10 game win streak teams are in the running? One? Ohio State? We take care of Stanford in convincing fashion and we will have had 10 wins all by double digits and a top 5 or better D during that streak.

Indiana is 11-0 just like OSU. Big ten looks like the deadly conference

This game made me look at A&M’s schedule again, and it’s ridiculous how imbalanced these megaconference schedules are. There shouldn’t be able to be a 4 way tie for first with 7-1 records. So stupid.

Right, we don't need A&M to win, it would have been nice and cleaner but not really a necessity. To just totally lock in ND's spot without any sort of serious sweating during the final rankings we just need Alabama to lose either tomorrow or next week OR BYU to lose tomorrow or next week OR Oregon to lose tomorrow OR Oklahoma to lose tomorrow (unlikely).

Since I know that won't be enough for the more doomer minded among us, other results that would be helpful (but not completely necessary):
OSU beating Michigan
Pitt beating Miami.

Well Reed can kiss any Heisman chances goodbye. He killed the rally second half drives by relying on his arm and not his legs. Of course the D gave up 21 soft ass points and did not look like a top 12 team. As usual A&M fizzles. Maybe Pitt will treat last years beat down of Miami. People are dogging out our weak schedule but beating USC, Navy, Pitt, Arkansas, NC State and Boise State in dominating fashion is worthy of a top 12 finish. Everyone knows we are passing the eye tests with flying colors and that is relevant.

Pathetic tackling by A& M. Rees figured out way to late that he needs to use his legs or their offense does not work. They. Better score fast. Nice oddbal penalty on A&M.
Man this was a rollercoaster of a read.

WA has had OR’s # a few times over the past 10-15 years, spoiling their season. Maybe tomorrow can be one of those instances again.

Speaking and grammar errors notwithstanding I’m glad you enjoyed it. Having to listen to Sark plugging his 3 losses team that lost to a 3 win Florida.

Except one can easily imagine a situation where none of those happen. Ive been expecting upsets all year and the only ones that seem to happen are when miami and A&M lose. Ive become skeptical anything will go ND's way in this regard. Hope I'm wrong again....

I really don't think Miami is in play at all anymore. The question is if Bama can win the SEC and if BYU can win the Big 12. If those both happen it could push us to 11 and the American and ACC champion autobid charity cases push us out. The committee has already said they've compared us directly against Miami and they prefer us. Unless Miami beats Pitt by 40 and we look like ass against Stanford or Carr has some major injury, I don't think there's any path forward for them.

Bingo. Look at how easy their road was this year compared to say Arkansas. Mizzou had an easy run too and it led to Drink getting a huge extensions. They had some close losses but didn’t beat anyone w/ a winning record. It’s why CCG are a joke when you have close to 20 teams per conference. Some don’t face each other for a decade (see OSU & ILL this season).

Or if Michigan beat OSU. Any 2 of those 3 is big trouble.

Michigan won't be a problem unless they somehow make it to the Big 10 title and win it. They aren't jumping us without it. This committee loves the eye test. The SP+ is a good indicator of the eye test. Michigan is 22 and Texas is 23. ND is 5.

The downside of 16-team conferences.

You could be right and I hope you are but it will be a sleepless, bed flooding night before the final 12 is announced in that case.

it's not always about talent with soccer or football
It was about talent with Ohio State. I don’t give two squirts of piss about the results of AnM’s game today as it relates to playing them in the playoffs - ND has more talent and it's a game they should win.

Oregon, Oklahoma and bama losing would be helpful. Next week, Byu losing is absolutely necessary if everything holds and bama wins sec. Based on what the committee said Tuesday the result of pitt Miami really doesn't matter.

I actually think the long gap between OSU and ILL games mostly resulted from a setup where CCGs make sense. 2 divisions, each of which play every division opponent plus a small number of opponents from the other division. Even if your small out of division sample is unfairly strong so you take an extra loss compared to a team you beat, you get a H2H tiebreaker to win the division and play in the CCG.

Current conferences are so big that teams are playing completely different schedules and then compared to each other on straight wins and losses for entry to a CCG. Really the AAC might have the right idea in that environment with at least partially relying on rankings to advance.

This season has not had the massive upsets ( as many maybe more fair). Everything seems to be chalk.
