I guess some people love misery. We will be in the playoffs. Now where we will be is up in the air but being there is not.
As long as we take care of business against Stanford, the committee is not leaving us out.
All these contortions that some here are going through is pathetic
Winning ten games in a row and looking impressive in virtually all of them, looking stronger as the season has gone along, is exactly what the committee is looking for. Those saying otherwise are morons
I definitely agree, but we could use a dash of chaos to cement things. There’s at least one Doomsday scenario if the Big12 ends up with a second team. Really any of the following next week would cinch it:

+ Ole Miss loss
+ Oregon loss
+ Oklahoma loss
+ Alabama loss
+ BYU or TTU loss

Of those scenarios, probably an Oklahoma or Oregon loss are the most likely based on opponent…but weird things happen sometimes in the Egg and Iron Bowls.

You're assuming the committee isn't full of morons

If everything goes chalk this is the ammo these conference commissioners need to expand this to 16 or more. They really need to get rid of these auto bids for these trash leagues.

In the unlikely event of Georgia somehow losing to Georgia Tech, do you think they would drop behind us?

If we were to get just one break this week, I would think for sure, but since they are going to be 4-5 spots ahead of us, it isn't guaranteed. It's not out of the possibility imo, but not for sure either. Prob 50/50 or less..

No, you're wrong. The old man has been clear, only fools talk about the two B12 team scenario.

Given how hard it is to beat a good team twice in a season, it's certainly possible that BYU beats Texas Tech in the Big 12 title game. If that happens, how far does Texas Tech drop?

They committee has clearly shown that they take how a team is playing late plus key injuries
so I am not worried about things some here seem to obsess over

What makes college football special and different from any other sport is the nuance and subjectivity in rankings. Has there been a precedent like this where a team with the exact record who lost the head-to-head battle gets in while the other team doesn’t? The debate is supposed to be fun and interesting so I don’t know why some people are so against it and disparage anyone with a different viewpoint. It’s definitely more likely than not that ND gets in. But I don’t think it’s so black-and-white

For those of you at home wishing the playoffs were more akin to FCS.... North Dakota, who went 7-5 losing to every team with a pulse has made it to the playoffs.

This is why I don't care for large playoff fields. There just isn't many good football teams

First game of the season means less than any other. Think on that.

True, but I think 4 teams was certainly too few for a playoff. Look at last season as an example. All 4 conference champions got ousted despite having the BYE and we ended up as #7 in the title game against #8 with #8 being the eventual champ. By that token at a minimum you have to have 8 teams and 12 isn't exactly a stretch (Although teams 9-12 certainly got smashed last season).

I think 8 teams was probably the sweet spot, but it's only going to get bigger. I hope it stops at 16. Anything bigger is ridiculous.

I think the main thing with Miami is the committee doesn’t want to give the ACC two bids. Particularly a non ACC Championship game participant. It just makes no sense to “reward” the conference regardless of who Team #2 is

I think thats fair, plus the advanced stats don't favor them either

They seem pretty hesitant to reward the B12 with 2 teams as well.

I do think that Miami really hurt their odds/resume yesterday. Hopefully the committee can see through the desperate garbage time TD they scored at the end because before that, it was a 10 point game against a 3-7 team who gained the same amount of total yards.
I don’t think it will or should matter any more than our somewhat pedestrian win against BC mattered.

I know we don’t care about the AP Poll now but what are the voters smoking that Pitt is now one spot behind Georgia Tech?
