Advanced Metrics Round-Up (Where Updated):

Generally we gained ground this week as we outperformed expectations against Pitt. We remain about a 4-5 pt dog to OSU on a neutral field, but essentially a coin flip against anyone else.

DokterEntropy: #3 (4pt off IU and OSU who are essentially tied at 1)
Sargarin: #4 (only .39 off of #2 IU, ~4pt off #1 OSU)
TeamRankings.com: #3 (essentially tied with #4 Oregon, 5pts off #1 OSU)
ESPN FPI: #5 (essentially tied with UGA at 4, 5 off #1 OSU)

DokterEntropy has been the “most predictive” so far this year fwiw.

If we aren’t going to get a home game, you’d want to play at OU / Ole Miss who’d we be favored against by 5-8 pts on a neutral field.

This can’t be true. I’m seeing ND is 2 - 2 against the Top 30 of Sagarin and Miami is 1 - 2, for those that like random benchmarks like that

I fully expect Oklahoma to drop one of the last two games of the year. Offensively they are not good and are overrated as a defense
They could certainly lose to Missouri but I would be shocked is LSU is able to score on them with their 62nd ranked offense. Weirder things have happened though.

Who do you guys want at home in the first round? Like what game would you love to see?

I haven’t looked into potential seeding at all, so this probably isn’t an option but I’ve been dying to see ND play Oregon for years. A playoff home game against them / Dante Moore would be amazing imo.

I don't gamble on sports, so I don't really pay attention to how teams perform vs. the lines. I also do not think losing by 2 TDs is a blow out. Did IU blow out Oregon when they won by 15?

They beat Georgia after they lost to FSU. You guys can keep talking about the eye test while I continue to talk about record and wins because I do not know enough to use the eye test.

I do think it's interesting how quickly this board adopted the eye test after railing against it for years. Yes, I know it's not necessarily the same posters
fools are fools
both the eye test and the stats need to be weighed
What Alabama has shown is that they are inconsistent
you might want to think how that registers with the committee

ND would be favored over everyone except Ohio State and maybe Indiana/Oregon. It would be a tight line with with Oregon, Texas Tech, and Georgia.
That’s what I just said, but Lax gets the cred.

Lol. Just kidding but yes, that’s your rankings

It’d be a tight line too with AM just bc they have the head to head. I’d hammer the shit on ND though

Consider how teams are playing... big losses, close games, big wins.

ND has zero big losses, two close games [both losses], and 8 big wins.

Oklahoma has one big loss, four close games [one loss, three wins including a nailbiter against bad Auburn], and five big wins [only two over FBS teams... Michigan and South Carolina]. Basically Oklahoma has one blowout loss, a bunch of close games, and two comfortable wins against FBS competition. They have not been particularly impressive, more lucky-than-good like a UVA.

Alabama has one big loss, four close games [one loss, three wins similar to Oklahoma], and five big wins [Tennessee and Vanderbilt being chief of those]. Bama is objectively better than Oklahoma minus the head-to-head because of their strength of schedule and their wins. But they also have a HORRIBLE loss to a bad FSU team, and have looked like ass for the past three weeks.

Accordingly, I think if you look at "how teams are playing" ND should be ahead of both because the play on the field is simply better. They blowout everyone they play and got unfortunate in two close games. If you look at strength of schedule, then ND would be behind both. If you look at who has worse losses, ND would be ahead of both Oklahoma and Bama but certainly ahead of Bama.

Recency bias would mean Oklahoma-ND-Bama in that order, if SECSPN puts their finger on the scale I could see ND behind both of them though... especially with Sankey's comments.

Are you really going to ignore Bama's win in Athens?

I watched the refs hand Georgia a game against an average Auburn team. I'm not sold on any of the SEC teams. None of them really pass the eye test imo.

It was a close game, by "big wins" I mean large margin of victory. There's no question that it's an impressive win which is why I said if you look at SOS they would clearly be ahead of us and should honestly still be ahead of Oklahoma save for the fact that you need to weigh head-to-head.

Bama has the best wins with the worst loss. Oklahoma has beaten Bama. Notre Dame has looked clearly the best of the three in terms of consistent play on the field when you look at all stats + advanced stats. So no one really knows how this will shake out. A big part of me thinks that ND will be behind both of them.

Reminder, we just crushed #22 on the road. Their rankings, not mine.

OK jumped us bc they beat an overrated Bama team. Heard.

If mandated none of those voters would wager their house or wife on OK beating ND. Promise

Nah, I knew what you meant by big wins. I'm talking comparing these teams but ignoring the best win in cfb so far this year.

I'm not going at your premises, just the not including an important win to your calculus.

🚨🚨🚨Computer Rankings Round-Up (Where Updated)🚨🚨🚨

1: Dokter Entropy: #3 (2 points off #1 OSU)
2. TeamRankings.com: #3 (3 points off #1 OSU)
3. Sargarin: #2 (1.8pts off OSU)
4: Massey: #2 (5pts off OSU)
5. FPI: #3 (3pts off #1 OSU)

Stay calm…but THIS IS THE CLOSEST WE’VE BEEN TO THE TOP OF THE SPORT SINCE THE EARLY 90s.

Even going into the Natty last year we were 4-6pts below OSU across the board. Amazing how far we’ve come.

Saw online some OU fans were worried about us jumping them in the rankings. Not sure if the committee would do that, but they would have a good case.

Meanwhile Matt Leinart is saying we're ranked #9 because of brand bias lmao.

No change in coaches poll, remain at 9.
I'm the sure the AP will end up the same. Yet Tuesday evening Miami fans will commence their weekly crashout and act utterly aghast that the committee could commit such a war crime. No way they could have seen that ranking coming.

Early forecast for next Saturday in Pittsburgh for the Miami kickoff: 32 degrees, will feel like it's in the 20s. Pitt has a real chance if they play tough. Hopefully Miami doesn't pay them to throw the game like ND paid off Fran Brown!

It’s a shame we’ll likely play pOSU in round 2. Would rather get them later.

I honestly think getting them coming off the bye is the best chance at taking them out. They’re going to be rusty and have not played good competition in a game that matters since before Labor Day

While I think OSU is the best team, and their defense seems top tier, I’m not sure they scare me anywhere near as much as last year.

I think our defense can keep their offense in check and do some things to confuse Sayin.

And I think we can find enough chuck plays/drives to go blow for blow.

It might be a 20-17 type game, but I think we have as good a shot as any.

I don’t think Pitt will have any issues moving the ball on Miami

Ohio State is not better than last year... IMO.

Our defense would make them one dimensional as their running game is average at best. Double Jeremiah Smith and have Leonard Moore lockdown Carnell Tate. In a perfect world, if a team can get pressure on Sayin while only rushing four, while dropping seven, that would be key in slowing down their offense.

Yes, their defense is impressive, but what elite offense have they played? We were one dimensional on offense in the National Championship Game, with a Jeremiyah Love who was on one leg and a defense who was patched together.

I rather take the risk of getting them early, so that they can sit around for a couple of weeks and hopefully that layoff gets that offense out of sync. Ohio State ran the gauntlet last year, it is now our time to do the same. This journey began in Miami on August 31st and it will end in Miami on January 19th with a National Championship.

Slate Fluker just updated and we are also up to #2 there and would be a 1.5pt dog to OSU.

If you average the 4 most predictive systems (DokEntropy, Sargarin, SlateFluker, and Team Rankings.com) we would be a 2pt dog on a neutral field to the Buckeyes.

The team is also essentially tied or slightly exceeding our Year End 2024 ratings across the board. Pretty wild stuff.

Yeah, I think there's a possibility they're not as hungry as last year, and while Patricia has been good for their defense I think I'd rather face him than Knowles as Knowles has had our number. If they roll Michigan maybe they do come in rusty and over confidant since they haven't been tested much this year. Then again they could have their asses lit on fire again and just run through teams last last playoffs.
