I'm not sure how I woke up smack dab in a North Dakota-South Dakota rap battle to start my day, but I am on the eastside of SD and it is flat as hell and windy as shit (much like our women)!
You know what Morpheus, I don't think I am up yet!
I lived in the other end of the state in the Black Hills for a decade where the women were still windy, but not flat, so to speak.

Columbus is a nicer place to live than 95% of places with FBS schools...it's like Austin

We should all be rooting of OSU to beat the brakes off scUM this year & beyond. Just b/c Day won a natty last season doesn’t mean he’s in C’bus for the long haul. If he decides he’s had enough of their psycho fanbase or OSU gets pressure from the psycho fanbase to fire him, they’ll make a bee line for MF.

A lot of smoke about Brian Hartline being a candidate for the PSU job… Bad fit or not, we should all be cheering he gets a job somewhere besides Columbus to even out WR recruiting.
My PSU buddies keep telling me this. Obviously he can recruit, but that wasn't really Franklin's problem. A true high risk/reward scenario. Maybe he crushes it as a HC but he's never done it before. There are a lot of really good coordinators who have crashed and burned as HC. It has the potential to weaken Ohio St and Penn St, so I think I am here for it.

I always thought that Franklin had a reputation of a great recruiter but not a very good Head Coach. I was surprised to see that they typically were around #15 most years in recruiting. I never really paid that much attention, but I assumed that they typically recruited better than that.

Not sure if Hartline could recruit better than that or not.

They appear willing to play ball in NIL that could be a real tailwind for them going forward. Would hate it for ND.

I think basically any hire for PSU is going to come with a fair amount of risk. The safe picks are already at good programs and probably aren't taking that job. They need to find someone who hasn't proven themselves at a big job yet like a coordinator or smaller program HC or some old guy who has been out of the game for awhile.

Nick Saban isnt walking through that door. Kirby Smart isnt. Urban Meyer probably isnt lol. Brian Kelly isn't (the state would burn).

So nobody they get is going to be safe.

I would think PSU fans would want a splash hire though, taking somebody like Matt Campbell isnt appealing to them. They dont even want Rhule. Whether or not their hope is justified is another thing

Everybody always wants a splash they perceive as guaranteed success like Saban at Alabama or Urban at OSU.

But who are they going to get? Something that isn't that!

Firing Franklin for a guy as unproven as Hartline is just wild to me. Like they would be hiring him just to spite OSU.

I feel like they'd want Cignetti. He'd be the only splash hire in CFB right now who is attainable (maybe)

If a few of OSU's receivers were spread among multiple schools, it would help ND. We saw in the NC game how big difference-makers they are. I'm not sure all of them would be there if Hartline were a HC somewhere else.

I still wonder what might have been had BenMo been healthy.

Is it all that different than us hiring Freeman? Not the same, but directionally similar

The argument to hiring Hartline you gotta live with is him “growing” into the job, like Freeman did, and the payoff being worth it. I think PSUs joke of a 2026 schedule are not nothing for that route. 2027 gets more serious especially if IU is still humming but still no OSU.

It isn't that different, although of course Kelly wasn't fired- it's more of a gambit when you fired a guy who had usually won 10 games or whatever. High risk/high reward makes sense if you fired the low risk/low reward guy (in that respect, BK's tenure at ND was similar to Franklin's tenure at PSU).

The most reliable insider on PSU 247 is still basically saying don't Rhule out your boy because despite the extension he is still a very real candidate.

I think Hartline has the message board guys excited because they dream of being OSU but I'm not sure the actual decision makers want to take that kind of risk unless options 1-5 are out. Elko is their shoot the moon and then it seems like Campbell and Drink are the next tier.
