I have hated NBC broadcasts basically as long as I can remember because of that vibe. My earliest recollection was of them going to the studio at halftime. It was all wood paneled looking and the host always wore a cardigan sweater. It was so uncool. And of course Tom the corpse Hammond.Rewatched the Boise game, and the biggest standout (besides how boss JP, JL and Faison are) is just how terrible and regressive the NBC broadcast is. You can just tell Garrett is mailing it in, its all superficial insight and filling time with folksy tropes and nonsense. Dan Hick is fine(ish), but overall a country club snooze. What's worse though is that the production of their college football feels so flimsy and cheap. Their studio talent is C-squad and the whole thing feels like a college broadcast of people doing their impression of on-air talent.
Someone here said it somewhere, but it's all the more strange because Sunday Night Football is awesome and makes the game feel "big." I also think NBC Premier League broadcast is totally top notch. ND football and their BIG10 coverage feels phoned in.
One of these days, somebody's going to get a whiff of his crawl space and find 30 boys buried there.

I can’t remember how long he called games for ND specifically but Charlie Jones was awesome. He was the Vern Lundquist of the early 90s. He would share the booth w/ the likes of Todd Christensen (RIP) & Chris Collinsworth. I think Enberg did some early PBP for ND on NBC as well. Don’t forget John Dockery on the sideline getting into it w/ Lou on a weekly basis…LOL. If my memory serves, OJ served as sideline reporter of a game or two

He killed it as a sideline reporter

Is this supposed to imply it’s an ND commit saying adios? If so we hate this guy even more right?
I only remember them doing the bowl game vs Colorado when Rocket‘s punt return for a TD was called back. It stood out b/c Bill had just started in the booth & let a few minor curse words slip (mild in today’s world) & famously noted (paraphrasing) “Whatever you do, don’t kick it to Rocket”…right before he housed it…and then ND got screwed.Dick Enberg and Bill Walsh were in the booth together.

Why do think it involves ND?

Bill was only in 1991. I’m pretty sure he went to coach Stanford in ‘92.I only remember them doing the bowl game vs Colorado when Rocket‘s punt return for a TD was called back. Show yourself out, pleaseHe killed it as a sideline reporter
He really did...he really cut through all of the fluff and told it as it is...i really like how he took a stab at uncovering the issues we had on offense and defense...he never ran from a tough issue on the field. He killed it as a sideline reporter
This schtick fits you like a glove.View attachment 3060438

Listened to just the two of them for the first time last week. Remarkably beta. Will not revisit. The way these guys fawn over his venture capital exploits, you'd think he was curing cancer.

Beta is the inverse of Alpha in this case. As in, not top tier, not manly, not impressive, etc.what do you mean "beta"? Like beta-max?
