If he continues to play decent Hobbs might as well enter the portal and avoid playing more than 4 games. He can then go on to be a backup somewhere like Cal like Mickey.
Mickey will be in South Bend in two weeks as the starting nickel for Boise State.

Mickey would probably be the starting nickel for Notre Dame right now if he’d stuck around.
And would have had good PT last year as the 3rd corner. Then gray could have gotten a breather at some point

That’s what was so frustrating about him leaving when he did. He had to know BenMo was hurt. But also he probably knew Moore was coming.

Thought he looked very comfortable out there yesterday. Besides the INT, he had a PD and a TFL. I don’t specifically remember seeing him out of place which says something with this defense.

Somebody asked a week or two ago which freshman DB was going to step up and make a name for himself this year like Morrison and Moore did previously. Looks like it's Golden.

I hope you are right, but if he keeps covering the way he’s covering right now he’s gonna get torched a lot and penalized a bunch too. He was mugging dudes in coverage. I couldn’t believe he didn’t get flagged on a few plays. I’m sure he’ll get better at playing clean football as he gains experience, but it was pretty flagrant.

I fear something akin this has already taken hold--a belief that ND should at, all times, regardless of injuries and whatnot, have at least three lockdown guys suiting up, including one first-team All-American, and one first-team freshman All-American. I'm not expecting a new Morrison/Moore on an annual basis. Of course, we should always, have the nation's top ballhawk at safety, too. Happy to see Golden catch a ball, though.

Mickey had a rough go of things personally I understand that. He also got some terrible advice and didn't have the right people in his corner telling him to stay and it'll workout.

Not worried in the least. Ass discovered something last week and we're rolling today.

#WhatDidHobbsDo

I can’t imagine he’d be a worse option outside than Zackery

Hobbs talked a big game on the field and in interviews. To talk all that shit and be fucking terrible on the field is a terrible look.

Zackery is the future. Hobbs obviously isn’t. Let Zackery take his lumps now.

He made some really good plays tonight. All you can ask for freshmen is to consistently improve and he has been doing that. He will be the NB for the next two years and that is going to work well.
He also stood up for himself and threw the WR off him when he was getting blocked late after a whistle. Our team takes no shit from anyone, even the freshmen. “Violence” as our fearless leader would say.

Right before the Lemon big play and then fumble, he breaks up a 1-1 fade to Lane playing boundary corner (Moore on Lemon in slot). Just a PBU at a position you haven’t played in weeks on a 6’4 future NFL WR. The fact that he repped at outside corner most of camp probably helped make the Moore - Lemon decision easier.

Curious what they do with him long term. Not sure nickel makes the most sense but he’s giving them enough there currently to stay.

Can someone quantify the traits that help with playing NB vs. boundary vs. field corners?

Boundary receivers tend to be bigger and slower, so size is important, but the boundary CB is most likely to be left without help, so being an all-around bad ass is desirable.

Field corners often line up across from the speediest receiver.

Generally favoring short area quickness. You would prefer a more compact, stronger player at the spot since they have to fill run fit responsibilities.

ND has sort of cheated by rotating Golden into a true safety spot and letting Shuler fit on likely runs. He’s doing great processing is pattern matching rules and leveraging on slot receivers.

He’ll be great with an offseason of S&C.

I'd love if he can stay at nickel so I can get a couple years off having to learn about a new transfer lol

He's going to be fine. Again, Moore seems to have a way of making the other corners look both better and worse. It obviously helps that Golden has Moore out there along with a vet like Gray. Eventually Golden's number is going to be called and he'll be the guy. Exciting times.
