I'm still just disappointed the morning after in what looked totally like their is a complete lack of leadership from the guys that were in the heat of the battle last year. Xavier and Jack were natural born leaders and the team followed them thru hell or high water. We have talented players that make plays don't get me wrong but it looked to me very much a lot of dudes just playing not playing for each other. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. I'm hoping it clicks cuz if it does they have the making of a good defense still

We didn’t get pressure bringing more than 4 either.
Aside from Traore no one really seemed able to beat their OLs. Their OLs are very good. But we also have very good pass rushers, which makes me wonder about some of the rotations. I haven't seen a snap count but Young and Sneed in particular didn't seem to play all that much. (or if they did they didn't do enough that one noticed them).

Wagner will be good - great against most of the schedule. He is not strong enough against NFL/CFP level DEs. Probably not a concern after WK 3 until the CFP potentially, but it is what it is. The fact the beat was celebrating that he was 300 pounds earlier this off-season was pathetic.

Knapp probably okay - good as well versus most teams. Making a move to Jagusah at LT is the move if you’re thinking CFP.

Young played 31 snaps and Sneed played 35.

The big surprise is Talich only played 14 and I believe he was a starter

Didn't hear that Williams was hurt.

He was in on the second TD. I would be worried about a transfer if he was healthy and only got one snap.

It's a long season. Love and Price are quite possibly both in the pros next year. I wouldn't worry about that yet.
But, we probably could have used him blocking last night, and to some degree in the passing game. Maybe he was hurt? IDK.

Williams was hurt. Wasn’t expected to play. I guess they really wanted to pass block on that one play. Washington was in and out of camp I didn’t think it was enough to not play but I guess so

Disappointed for sure. Didn't get catch many breaks, Miami did. Middle 8 decided the game basically, as we did to most teams last year. Thought DL was shit in first half and much better in the second half. OL was poopy. Maybe we see some swapping for AM. CJ is a dog. Greathouse gotta show up in two weeks. Please leave the bubble screens in Florida

They held up just fine, for the most part, against very good DEs last year. It was a bad game, and that happens sometimes. But I’m not gonna completely write them off after one bad performance. Especially when I’ve seen them do it before.
Wagner was pretty darn good last year, Knapp was a below average P5 player

- We lost on the road to a good team.
- Carr impressed me
- I miss Watts
- I woke up this morning with an erection, must not have had enough alcohol.

Pardon my rant. If too long please just scroll ahead.

I assume all of this has already been said, but I'm absolutely livid that we lost a game with a roster whose supposed only "weakness" or question mark was a young QB, and it wasn't the young QB making any sort of mistake that cost us. It was ultimately the experienced coordinators.

Chris Ash was getting ZERO pressure all day and just insisted on soft zone that let Beck drive right down the field time and time again. He didnt take advantage of his elite corners enough, going man and generating pressure, which was his predecessor's bread and butter. Cleaned it up after the opening drive in 2nd half but holy shit we shouldn't be giving up 27 to anybody with the talent and depth on all 3 levels. Shuler looked lost on that late first half TD and should be ball hawking not playing center field. Pathetic effort on that play from our veteran in that group. Tae Johnson needs more burn, the safety group was dreadfully quiet.

Denbrock went from ultra conservative to letting Carr cook, with some of the worst playcalls in between. Screens to the boundary, on several occasions? On 2nd and 2 after an 8 yard run? We have the best RB room in the nation and our QB, not named Leonard, had more carries than both of them?! Wtf is wrong with you. Faison looked like an absolute weapon early and then just disappeared for a long, long stretch. Pauling? Greathouse? You're telling me we can't find a way to feed our best WR the football.

There is no reason to panic as they showed a lot of fight on the road against a quality opponent, even though it was too little too late. But this game was 100% on our coordinators. We got absolutely owned at the LOS on both sides. That cannot happen, ever. Freeman needs to clean this shit up and hold guys accountable. Lost opportunity.
I had to look at who wrote this to see if it were me because you worded it exactly how I would have. Denbrock worse than Ash and Shane in Carr for that idiot decision not to give Love that read option in second and two. Love can’t be happy inside about that one. Not running the ball more was ridiculous. The playcalling to start this game reminded me of all the attempts to pass to start the 2012 Bama game that failed miserably. All those short passes were not a passing game. Perfect post.

Coach had a different view of the game than I did

I think that is a spot on take.

The OL was fine. He says you cant take too much out of the last series, which isnt unfair. The Irish OL played better in the second half, objectively. I personally think the media and Irish fans got too excited about the returning starters... they arent the best in the country.

The DL wasnt great, but went up against one of the best OL in the country. The DEs got some pressure in the second half, and the DTs just got bodied.

Brian Kelly would use more aggressive words to describe the same thing Freeman saw.

Well they are missing the best one who has 1st round potential, actually not potential, likelihood. That’s a rather large omission in people’s hopes for the OL. Craig hasn’t played in a year. Lambert is a RS FR. It’s not a OL built to be better than Miami’s today, but I think you’re overselling the overrated angle a bit also.

Denbrock started Carr off well, but then failed to establish a run game. Hey-what about passing vertical? Poor play calling IMO.
Carr played well. Very hopeful.
JLove tried but wasn't provided enough opportunities.
Where was Greathouse?
Raridon needs to start using Stick-em.
Ash? Just didn't seem to be very aggressive.
Disappointed with both lines. DL was NOT what we were told it was. The OLine? Manhandled.
Freeman didn't seem to have the team ready.

There's a lot to like, but also too much to be worried about. Glad to have a bye week so I can reflect on my happiness being relied on by college-aged kids.

Last thing I'll say is that the game played out a lot like the PSU game from last year.

OL gets dominated by a good DL. Dreadful first half on offense, finally start saying "fuck it we gotta take some chances" and then we get some points. Tie it up late. Difference is that against PSU we created a negative play on defense to win the game and in this one we gave up just enough ground for them to kick a long field goal.

But at some point you gotta have some self-reflection and say "we have to be willing to throw the ball down the field to score points on good teams." And that's doubly true without a dual threat QB or an OL that can run block worth a damn.
Thought the same thing down to the final score and playing from behind all night. Beck played much better than Allar and got a bit lucky over for two TDs

I think a lot of people overrated Knapp and Wagner, specifically. They extrapolated that with another year of experience those two would make another, similar jump. Unfortunately last night showed us that both have physical limitations that are going to limit their ceilings.

I think without a mobile QB to cover up some of their warts, it's right to be concerned about how they will perform vs postseason-caliber teams

Stat line between both teams is almost identical. The turnovers and the Time of possession really hurt the defense in south Florida.
D should never get tired with the length of TV timeouts to recover.

...they were literally stated to be the best OL in the country by an outlet or two, and top five by most. Jagusah or not, that is not going to be the case.
