My other thought is would we want Carr to start, struggle with turnovers, hope to split the first 2 games with the possibility of him getting pulled and most likely playing his last game in a ND uniform, or Kenny playing, lean on run game and defense to win first 2 games and maybe never see Carr in a ND uniform. I dont know the answer lol

Here we are on Monday starting another week of speculation and unscientific reasoning.

Regardless of the decision, I trust the staff to make the right call.
Agree. I really don’t care who starts. Neither have ever played meaningful snaps and I don’t see that much difference from a talent standpoint. Not like it’s 5* Crist vs Rees or similar qb “battle”.

I honestly don’t think the run game is going to much of a factor the first two games you are gonna need a QB who can hit open WR’s the passing game is what’s gonna win us the game. Both Miami and A&M should be good against the run.

I hope Carr's "camp" is not what's complicating the decision. I've heard loose rumors that his family is in MF's ear, but it didn't exactly come from a reliable narrator.
I don't buy this one bit. MF doesn't strike me as the type to lend an ear to the parents of his players when it comes to something like a position battle. Based on nothing but my own read on the vibes MF gives off, if he were to hear "you play my boy or else!" he'd move on from that red flag immediately.

If CJ Carr was scared of competition he would've gone to East Lansing or Wisconsin. These guys know school's like ND are going to take at least one QB per class and that's going to breed competition, be that 1st string or 2nd string.

FWIW. Have heard he was less than inspiring in camp.
Well then Collins must suck because the Coach said it was Collins job and Steve would have to pass him to nab the starting spot. Collins has a stronger arm, more athletic and had the benefit of spring ball with Syracuse but Steve won the job.

I don't understand this. We saw a game last year where we went TO TA&M and wore them down int he second half and broke big runs.

a running game doesn't need consistent 5-10 yard carries to be successful. All indications point to the fact that Minchey and Carr can both complete passes. I don't think ND is going to South Beach with the intention of throwing the ball 10 times like Navy. They will be balanced.

Even if Miami and TA&M are "good" against the run, ND should be "very good to elite" at executing the running game.

Looking outside of the ND bubble; Notre Dame, Ohio St, Oregon, Michigan (most likely) Bama, Georgia, Texas, Ole Miss, are all going with first time full time starting QBs this year. Notre Dame, Ohio St and Oregon have all had their QB competitions linger longer than expected with the heir apparent struggling to take the reigns. That says to me that the transfer market for QBs was extremely thin and that at least one of this list is going to have a very disappointing season due to poor QB play.

Guys, let's not group think the shit out of this. It's pretty much on par for QB1 competitions.
-Undisclosed reports one might have an edge
-one may be struggling with playbook
-the other may be preferred by teammates
-somebody's camp might be upset
-if he doesn't start he'll transfer

We've all heard this before. Whichever guy it is, this team is very likely to have a successful season.

I was going to post something similar. As a parent you might be able to sway a coach in peewee, MS or HS, but that stuff doesn't fly at a major D1 program. MF seems the type of coach to show you the door as soon as you start telling him how to do his job.

I’m with you lax

But Pete Sampson doesn’t agree with us per his article today.
That’s not quite what he said.

According to multiple people briefed on the camp sessions closed to the media, both quarterbacks have looked like starting material, depending on the day. Both have also looked like Notre Dame was wrong to let Steve Angeli transfer to Syracuse, where he was just named the Week 1 starter.

Mike Frank just said that Minchey actually had the stronger Spring except for the Spring Game itself and they reported it that way at the time. I don't know if that's true or not.

So guys without relevant game experience have struggled against the Notre Dame defense in competitive settings???

Pete really pressing his sources on that one to bring Angeli’s transfer into the lack of resolution lol
Best defense either QB will see all regular season, full stop. Still making competitive plays by the sound of it.
