I know Kelly has a lot of money he is owed and all of that, but seriously, if LSU misses a 12 team playoff for a second year in a row in BK's 4th season, the seat has to at least get uncomfortably warm right?
If he misses the playoffs this year, he's out in LSU will hire Nick Saban at 100 million dollars a year....for 5 years. 😂

Was just coming here to post the same thing. Definitely an SEC suck off fest but you get to relive BK slamming the table after losing to USC.

We all know BK too well...dudes not winning a championship in this climate. No way he strings together 3/4 straight wins against playoff teams to make that happen. I'd almost guarantee it. Week 1 he loses agaaaaaain
I know this is going to come back and bite me in the ass, but I feel really good about this team this year. The schedule is a bear and this team has a few question marks (mainly, the offensive line), but I have a feeling they might be scary good. Our defensive line might be the best we’ve had in decades, the linebacker room is filthy, our WR’s will be unreal, I love Durham at RB (and am obviously excited to see what Harlem Berry can do), and have full confidence in Nussmeier. Our secondary shouldn’t be a slouch either ….

Like I said, it won’t surprise me if I’m bitching and moaning after week one as my faith in Kelly is scarce, but for some reason, I think this team — even if in despite Kelly’s flaws — can roll. We’ll see. It’s the most optimistic I’ve been since he’s taken the job.

I think LSU and ND will be playoff teams (ND higher seed due to LSU dropping a few on that schedule) and will "just so happen" to be in the same bracket.

All the CYA language is really unseemly, man. Better imo to have the courage of your convictions and if you think they're going to roll, say they're going to roll and be done with it. You'll be wrong, because your coach is a four-flushing, front-running, carpetbagging, underhanded wankstain who has never come within a mile of a championship and never will, but at least you'll have come by your misery honestly.

Don’t let your disdain for him cloud your judgment. He has his flaws, but he isn’t a “terrible” coach and his past certainly affirms that. I don’t have much faith in him to navigate a challenging schedule, but to his credit, he’s assembled a good staff and roster for this upcoming season. I’m optimistic due to the talent and assistant coaches assembled, not Kelly’s coaching. Maybe we over perform in spite of him (à la Larry Coker, Gene Chizik, Les Miles, Ed Orgeron etc.) Wishful thinking, perhaps…?

Kelly will lose a game maybe two with special teams. Question is will the team quit on him?

How many times did we say this exact same thing every single year he was here. Lmaooo
I’m not implying we’ll go 12-0. The ceiling and potential’s there, but I’d trust either Orgeron or Miles to handle that before Kelly.

Also, frankly, until he demonstrates he can win a big game coming out of the gate (i.e., Clemson), I can’t pick nor expect them to win, especially given that it’s on the road and not at neutral sites like the past.

But, except for the offensive line, the talent’s there. More so than ever. And, that’s
kind of my point — that I have to give Kelly credit for that. Will he squander it? Likely. For this team to win or overachieve, it’ll have to be despite his flaws and shortcomings.

Anyone saying Brian Kelly isn't a good football coach is letting his exit from ND cloud that judgment. The guy is absolutely a good coach, and his success throughout his entire career reflects that.

The question is, and will remain, whether he has what it takes to bump into that next tier of guys who qualify as "elite." This is they year to do it (and I think there were a few years in there where the same applied to ND - I still think to this day that an elite coach has the 2015 Irish in the national championship game).

I don't know how anyone can hold some sort of grudge against BK almost 4 years later given the context of where we are now. He laid a great foundation, setting the stage for MF to take it to the very top - something I'm not sure BK could have done.

He's not the best coach in CFB, and he is a disingenuous tool, but I'm thankful for what he did in 12 seasons.

Side note: in this SEC Netflix Show, he talks about having a background in MA politics after college. Nothing has ever made more sense.

Not to nitpick, but, personally, I'd describe him as a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit.

But your point is well taken.

There are plenty of "good" coaches. BK is one of them. He wins the games he is supposed to win. But he is 4-8 at LSU against top 25 teams. His career record is 35-37 against top 25 teams. Leaves a lot to be desired.

Hes going to win the games you're supposed to, win one or two that may be significant, and then lose one that you just go WTTTTTTFFFFFFF .... this is the BK script for a 9-3 or 12-1 season. That one loss won't be close and obviously ends your season lol

And where does it all begin?

Not sure how you could trust Miles to go undefeated as he never did it while at LSU despite having one of the most talented rosters year in & year out.

Side note: in this SEC Netflix Show, he talks about having a background in MA politics after college. Nothing has ever made more sense.

Now that I've defended him in this thread, I have to come and address this obvious BS that BK has spewed throughout his entire career. 😂

I was born and raised in Everett, MA. Kelly went to high school at St. John's Prep in Danvers, MA (where several of my cousins are alums) and then attended college at Assumption, a small school in Worcester (about 30 minutes outside of Boston without traffic), playing for the football team.

That's basically the last time he had contact with Massachusetts. The dude graduated in 1983, coached there until 1986, and then went out to the Midwest to coach at Grand Valley State, where he remained until he took the LSU job. He was never involved in MA politics; he had a few roles in the student government at Assumption, but he continues to run back this lie that he was "involved in MA politics" after college and it's so obviously a lie that I cringe every time I hear it.

What sealed the deal for me that he was a fraud was a few years back, when he was still coach here, ND did some kind of TV special where Kelly went back to Chelsea and "his old neighborhood." It was so painfully obvious that he had no fucking idea what he was talking about when discussing the town, and he clearly had no attachment to the place. He spent the majority of his life in the Midwest and every time he brings up the MA politics schtick, I cringe -- and it gives so much credence to the reports of his phoniness.

OK, I'll step off my soap box now. This has bothered me for years and I've never had an opportunity to bring it up, so thanks for giving me the opportunity DC!

This might be the only thing more on brand for him than being in politics - lying about it.
