I would've liked to see Sam Hartman with a competent WR crew...it was a tough situation even before the injury bug bit.
And offensive coordinator. There were games where Parker absolutely refused to call play action, which was shocking given how much attention Estime required. Didn’t we use it only like twice against Clemson?

Hartman could sling it. We handcuffed him.

Don't we have 3 or so commitments to watch starting today? I can't keep track

There were a handful of factors that limited Hartman outside of his control but I also don’t think he lived up to his billing. He didn’t seem confident in reading a defense for his level of experience. He’s also athletically limited. The way the beat talks about him is kinda odd, makes me seem the staff didn’t love his attitude completely either?

He went from the Slow Mesh offense to....I mean, whatever Parker was doing. I think all things considered he did pretty well and I think you're spot on with your assessment. I would agree.

Seemed like some negative buzz came out when he opted out of bowl

Regarding Hartman off the field, got the vibe that he was a great guy and good leader, but not really a team guy. Didn’t seem like he spent a lot of time with teammates outside of practices and what not, outside of NIL or the occasional photo op (e.g the QB room at the basketball game). Not that he’s required too!

But honestly, if he wasn’t such a good looking guy (relax), would non-diehard ND fans really have loved the guy the way they did?

Everyone that would know, either doesn’t have much to say out of respect or nothing good to say regarding Hartman at ND. I believe Hartman came to ND to push HIS brand. He didn’t put near the time or energy into being a leader and embracing ND as Riley did. There were definitely things that could’ve been better and coaches that could’ve done a better job, no denying that, but Hartman cares more about being a model than a suitable QB

I don’t know. Riley Leonard was the ultimate team captain, but he also didn’t will his way to being 6’4”, 220, fast and agile. He could do all the things that he needed to do to win. Could Hartman? Did his time in the strange Wake Forest system prepare him to transition to his full potential in a pro system in one offseason?

Leonard was the best, but I think comparing his success with Hartman’s and chalking it up to buy-in is a little unfair. We all know Pyne was all-in but that didn’t make him anything but average (by ND’s standards).

I’m not even talking about on the field success. I’m talking about his time at ND as a whole. I’m talking about summer workouts, time spent with the team on a voluntary level, leadership type stuff. He showed none of that in his time at ND

If Carr gives us about what Hartman gave us in the regular season: 63.5% completion percentage, 24 TDs/8 INTs, 2689 yards, 8.9 YPA, we're going undefeated
I believe we'll need more than that from Carr, especially in completion percentage to keep the offense efficient and on the field.

Riley threw for 21 TDs/8 INTs including playoffs + ran 17 TDs in.

Even if we see a modest uptick in rushing TDs across the roster, we'll still need Carr to hit a 30 spot and keep the INTs at or below a 3:1 ratio.

Miami was 41:8 in 13 games
Oregon 30:6 in 14 games
Clemson 37:7 in 14 games
Texas 40:14 in 16 games
Ohio State 37:10 in 16 games

Hartman was largely good with what was asked versus OSU. Louisville I would not put on him. But against Clemson he was straight up unplayable

13/30 for 150 yards and 2 INTs.

Doesn’t really matter that he tore up Wake and Stanford to balance that out. That is to say season numbers have not really played out to say we will go undefeated with this stat line. Every complete clunker game we have had under Freeman the QB has had an unplayable performance.

OSU he was pretty good but he turned the wrong way on a 1st down handoff with a chance to close out the game. And he was 0-2 on 4th down runs, and probably should’ve gotten one of them.

It's pretty simple.... Coan Hartman Leonard -- great people but they left a lot to be desired with overall play. If we're honest with ourselves, they were never good enough. Appreciate what they did but we defn needed more.

No way, give me Leonard every year.

Really don't think people understand how good he was at turning should-be sacks into 2 yard gains and how much that helps an offense. I'm not sure how it shook out after the playoffs but before the postseason his numbers for that trait were literally historic.

He wasn't Joe Burrow but he was a GREAT quarterback for us when it came time to get shit done.

CJ Carr has the potential to be what Sam Hartman should've been. In 2021 at Wake he passed for 4,228 yards and in 2022 he passed for 3,701 yards. Hartman would have similar numbers if you put him in this offense- better skill players and an even better OC. I think he enjoyed his ND experience as much as Leonard did.

At first I questioned Coan because to me he wasn't a big name, but like our other QB transfers he took his only year at ND, made the most of it, and had a hell of a bowl game.

Thank goodness ND passed on Drew Allar...I never thought about drinking that Kool-Aid.

Vince, Cam, RG3, Mariota, Jayden.

This is the juice I'm looking for, yes.
Forget running. Who needs it? Give me 2019 Burrow.

402/527 76.3% 5,671 yards 60 TDs 6 INTs 202 rating

Bolded stats he lead all of the NCAA. One of the single greatest seasons of all time.

Wild that he has a top 5 WR room in the NFL and he still had better receiverships in college.
