My students call me old because of this take. I don't want to play in a random world where people are just blowing me up, taking my stuff, causing general chaos around me...... I want to be the only one doing it damnit!I hated gta online with a white hot passion,… just story mode for me

Don’t hate. Loved the old versions. Still adjusting to FS25, just isn’t pulling me in like the other ones did.i know just the game for you

i actually played 23 i think it was free on Epic and I grabbed it. I can definitely see the appeal of the games it just needs more instruction/tutorials for new players i think. Once you get the automation going it is nice to sit back and see the work being doneDon’t hate. Loved the old versions. Still adjusting to FS25, just isn’t pulling me in like the other ones did.
It absolutely deserved the love it gotHonestly,... YEARS before the show even came out I thought it was one of the most overrated/overhyped games in history, all the awards it won and hype it got like it was the next Witcher 3,… it's GOOD, but totally linear, at times pretty clunky, offering very little replayability, if any at all... it's a good game, and that's it, but shouldn't appear in anyone's 'greatest game of all time' discussion... that is, was and always will be an absolute asinine take and I feel like I'm being pranked when I hear that stuff. It's a fun enough, good, but largely completely forgettable game. It never at any point should have gotten the shine it did and all these years later I’m trying to figure out how that happened.

Maybe I started too late but by time I tried it out I felt like I was jumping in with nothing against a non stop flow of jackasses with advanced stuff. I never knew where to go or what to do but any time I tried to figure anything out out here came some dude in a tank with a rocket launcher and I'm lucky to have a little pistol. lolMy students call me old because of this take. Me too. I like to play the actual game before I jump into online, same with CoD. Usually that puts me severely behind because of all the upgrades and familiarity people have when I finally jump in.Maybe I started too late but by time I tried it out I felt like I was jumping in with nothing against a non stop flow of jackasses with advanced stuff. How much did they fuck with the original story this time? Were there a bunch of damn ghosts everywhere again?I just beat Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It's one of my favorite games ever now, but my goodness is it long. 160 hours to beat. If you want to play a completionist run, just know what you're getting yourself into.
I know I'm biased because I didnt hate the first one as much as some, but I thought Rebirth is a great game. How much did they fuck with the original story this time? Were there a bunch of damn ghosts everywhere again?

Yes, they absolutely take liberties with the story of VII and have turned it into a multiverse mess. But, I cant help but love the fan service the game gives. I dont want to get into spoilers, but the final fight has a few moments that I loved more than anything the original game did. And I know that's sacrilegious to some.
The combat is better in this one than the first, although I still prefer turn-based games. The music isnt as good mainly because the story doesnt really have many moments with the songs you love. But when they get a chance, like Cosmo Canyon, Jenova fights, etc. its amazing stuff.
The sidequests in this one are better. Still probably too many, but they at least build character arcs unlike the first. And a lot of the mini-games are cool imo. Overall, its a great game. But those who have nostalgia and didnt like Remake will probably hate this game for similar reasons.
But technically there are less whipsers because in the first one you defy fate, which is what the whispers are trying to prevent you from doing. I cant remember if I did a full post on this game or not. But I loved it as well @IrishInFl.
It’s still button-mashing at the core--same general combat style as the first game. But now each character has a bigger toolkit to play with. You can use Red XIII and Yuffie now, which brings in some new elements. Synergy Skills are a new mechanic that add another layer when you’re trying to pressure enemies/buff your characters for a short time adding some strategy. There’s also a parry system now (Perfect Block), which you’ll definitely need to get good at on the harder difficulties. Overall, the aerial combat and mobility feel better and smoother.Yeah, I don't remember a full post, but I'd love to see one.
As a traditionalist I really detest when remakes make large changes to the overall story. If you want to do something new and different, make a different game all together, don't capitalize on a game's previous success by fucking with major moments that shaped said game and characters. If you want to add stuff, side quests, even new background NPCs that's all good, just don't fuck with the iconic moments, plot, and main character arcs. If a main character dies in one of the most iconic scenes in a video game...don't fuck with that! I feel like it's a slap in the face to fans.
You say the combat is better in this one? How so? You know my detest for button mashers, so any improvements in that department are appreciated.
Fan service is fine imo. Fan service is strictly for fans that are returning, but that doesn't mean new players can't enjoy it. I know some people look down on it, but honestly if you're making callbacks, references, or injecting some other nostalgia into a medium like this it's because it worked, it continues to work, so why be negative about it? Just enjoy it or move on, no need for people to be pricks.
I think I'm probably still passing on this one and I'm going to go with my original plan to wait until they do a "Greatest Hits" with the entire story combined into one game, because you know they'll eventually release a compilation and call it "Final Fantasy 7." Given what you know of me and your experience with the two games, do you think I'd enjoy Rebirth more than I did Remake, or is there still a lot of fuckery with the story and annoying button mashing?

What I really meant is that it’s basically a more polished version of what they did in Remake. So if you didn’t like Remake and already hate button-mashing, these improvements probably won’t change your mind.
Personally, I’m fine with the button-mashing—I can live with it—but I’ll always prefer turn-based.
Also, if you haven’t played Expedition 33, first of all, go fix that. Second, that would’ve been the dream combat system for a Remake-style game.
100%, frickin Devil May Cry ruined so many games, devs are just obsessed with that style of game nowadays

I can’t play their rpgs anymore. They all just feel like the same thing these days. Could be wrong here but it’s like they refuse to update their engine.I have noticed my video game patterns become pretty firm. Paradox map games. Tycoon style games. Some milsim-lite games. Bethesda games.
I am waiting on skylines 2 to get fixed up and then waiting for EU5. Might snag Fifa or NHL if they go on sale.
starfield used a new engine. ES6 will use it as well. Admittedly I have very little idea what most of that stuff meansI can’t play their rpgs anymore. They all just feel like the same thing these days. Could be wrong here but it’s like they refuse to update their engine.
Is Starfield worth playing?starfield used a new engine. ES6 will use it as well. Admittedly I have very little idea what most of that stuff means
During a steam sale, I think it's undeniably worth it. At full price, I'd proceed with caution. I really like the game but it has some serious problems and most people are lukewarm on it.Is Starfield worth playing?

Absolutely. Turn based RPGs are still alive and well in Japan, and they occasionally do well here in the West, but for the most part kids in this hemisphere have to be mashing that Square button 10,000 times a minute otherwise they get bored. It's mindless and tedious, reminds me of playing fighting games as little kids before we learned how to do the moves properly.100%, frickin Devil May Cry ruined so many games, devs are just obsessed with that style of game nowadays
