As for the Africans being conservative, I don't know. I haven't looked into them much. I know Sarah is painted as conservative because he was a critic of Francis. I just think it would be cool if the Pope looked more like the universal church and less like the European/American church. Hence, my thought about rooting for someone from Asia or Africa.

I think an African Pope would be excellent for the global Catholic family because of how vibrant and successful the African Catholic churches have been in spreading the faith. African congregations are vastly surpassing the rest of the world in ordinations and welcoming more Catholics into the faith, and they have incredible mass attendance rates. I think it would be something that the Catholic world could benefit from. What they are doing is working.

Depending on when the conclave begins and how long it lasts it's not unreasonable to think that the new Pope could be chosen on May 13th.

That's a significant date related to Fatima and also the assassination attempt against John Paul II.

Could be something. Could be nothing. But, I was just struck by that realization.

I've read a lot about Fatima. No sale on relevance.

People apparently love to be frightened by things going bump in the night.

St. Francis said: Even if you absolutely knew Christ and The End were nigh, keep tending your own garden.

I don't know about specific naming Vance on this false theology (I don't believe that Francis named him --- although he did send an advisor to Vance to explain how wrong he was), but back in February Vance made erroneous theological statements rationalizing his desire to treat immigrant harshly beyond the Doctrine of Christ's Good Samaritan parable, and Pope Francis had to correct him about that, and inform the US Bishops not to honor this false interpretation. So, although Vance's views are perhaps not "fake" views (he certainly seems to believe them himself, since they suit his politics), those views are not coherent with Catholic views.

What is the proper Catholic response when the previous administration floods the country with 15 Million+ migrants over a 4 year period against the will of the public, at a cost of $70 Billion a year of taxpayer money and increased crime? Are we supposed to go “ah well they are already here” in perpetuity?

Should we allow in 30 million? 75 million? 200 million? I get where Francis is coming from (be kind to those in need etc) but at some point a line in the sand has to be drawn.

Do you want the actual answer to that question or the one that makes you feel like there isn't an inherent contraction in your nationalist and Catholic identities?

It's almost like..... and stay with me on this.... a religious missive to help others is completely separate from US politics. But hey, if you want to conflate the two, go for it. Hahaha

I wont pretend to being among the most well read religious scholars here, but I don't think Jesus's command to "love thy neighbor as yourself" is subject to relative tax expenditure. I also think the language in Matthew 25:31-46 is pretty clear about expectations for how we treat strangers and other "lessers" and the consequences for not doing so.

I don't know that this needs clarification so I apologize for wasting time, but:
1. Vance claims to be Catholic and to make choices according to Catholic Church positions and theology;
2. He goes to Rome and talks to Francis about immigration, saying that he is basing his position on that topic precisely on a (he names it in Latin) Catholic theological statement on some particular aspects of moral choice making; i.e. he claims to be making a statement of Catholic theology;
3. Pope Francis tells him that his interpretation on this is NOT Catholic teaching as he says; i.e. it is a statement of False theology as far as Catholicism is concerned;
4. Vance makes his own claims public and sends them also to the US Bishops in an attempt to persuade them that he is on the Church's side on this and they have not been;
5. Francis warns US Bishops that Vance's view does not correlate with Catholic teaching.

It's an interesting thought exercise, whether the world would be better/worse off with Trump as President of the United States or Trump as Pope.

This question has ruined my group thread for several hours.
Trump would lead another crusade for Jerusalem

None of this is really that complicated.

Care for the sick. Treat our elderly well. Give children an opportunity. Help the poor.

Not that hard.

It's not real. There is literally only one requirement to be selected as pope and he does not meet that sole requirement. You have to be a baptized Catholic.
I should've been more clear, did Lindsey Graham actually tweet that?
