Peeps just love to hate on Driskell. If you digest him as an Opinion Commentator, much easier. MoFo has opinions for days.

The only issue I have with Driskell is that sometimes he takes comments too personally. I think the other issues people have with him are a little unwarranted.

I will say that ever since Ryan Roberts left, he has been very "clickbaity" on A-Z.

Roberts was good at IB. But is so less plugged in now

I quit listening to Pete Sampson a couple years ago for this exact reason. His smug, know-it-all, arrogance was tolerable when he actually had decent info. Now, it's just a waste of time and energy.

Is this guy really trying to suggest Carr has no room to grow and already hit his ceiling?

Goolsby doesn’t know shit. Is Carr gonna have a few rough games this year? Sure most likely. There will be growing pains but just imagine how good he will be 2 years from now. Carr looked great with not even our top offensive threat, and 2 of our 4 best WR’s playing. Once he has Love and Fields and Faison to throw too watch out. I think Fields and him will eat teams alive

Not to mention our top OL

I hate listening to Goolsby. His takes always so strange...
I found the easy answer is just dont listen. He has a successful career a prestigious degree so he can possibly be as ignorant as his meat head schtick. Which makes my find him not only off putting but disingenuous

While I don't listen to Goolsby, but I was hoping you can help me with a similar situation. I can't stand the Gollics, they are annoying pricks. I would love to stop listening to them but there is a problem ... Jessica Smetana is on their show....

Any advice?

Wait you actually like hearing Smetana’s thoughts? The only time I enjoy her on the Rakes Report is when she and Chris throw shade at other teams.

i swear Horka revels in this sort of shit. He's written numerous stories already at ND about players with unfortunate home lives, upbringings. Something about it always irks me

I just listened to the most recent 'The Independent' podcast with Sampson and Fortuna and it was a very hard listen. Fortuna was oddly intentional in trying to draw parallels between the 2025 team and the 2016 team. Talking about how things could go off the rails early, bad responses, etc.

I know the 2016 team had a lot of key talented players but please take one moment and compare the rosters and review the health of the program in the 2-3 preceding years. I think Fortuna has developed a selective bitterness toward ND that he's unaware of and unpacking live on-air.

I feel bad for him because that had to have been the most talented Penn State team in a loooong time and they lost their two biggest playmakers on both sides of the ball (Warren, Darth Vader). For a young, hobbled, greatly reduced Notre Dame team to show up and trade blows with PSU until landing the final haymaker when the odds were stacked against them, must really chap the ass of the PSU faithful.

I rarely read into things like this but for a program with loads of talent at all three levels of the defense and an offense returning every starting OL, improved WRs and potentially the best RB room in the country, there are only question marks about the QB and TE depth right now. It's hard to see how this thing goes 'off the rails' even if they aren't a finished product at kickoff.

As always, not intending to malign Matt but the scenario he painted felt more projection than analysis. Maybe others felt differently?

I think there are some on the beat that feel like they have the responsibility to temper expectations going into 2025 because if they aren’t as good they will be blamed for it

In general, choosing your words based off Twitter and message board reactions seems unnecessary as you’ll find negative reaction regardless.

I remember when Matt and Pete were previewing for the Michigan game one year, and had to give their most memorable moment of the series, and Matt went with 2012 Lennay Kekua.
