TCU built there while team this year off the portal the last two years. They must of a ton of NIL money for women's basketball

They gotta use it somewhere because we know they don’t use it on their bullshit football program

WBB right now is best bang for your buck with NIL if you’re a rich person that cares about it. The unlimited transfers + lack of money in WNBA is going to incentivize more and more players to stay in college as long as possible.

100%

Imagine if Catlyn Clark were a college free agent right now.

Interesting comment about Clark. One wonders if there is a view by WNBA owners that a cream layer of collegians is still worth "buying" at very high prices, because you MUST have THEM in the league and on your team. So a Clark would still go WNBA but at a higher salary. But the next cut down (still VERY good players) would stay in college as hired guns. How long is it going to be before the NCAA is not allowed to deny players to play college regardless of how many years they have already played? (might require endless phony "Masters programs" to pull the rationale off, but we're near-that already too.)

Clark transcended WBB, she didn’t need a school to pay the money, Nike does.
I guess I’m just saying a school would have paid big big to have her… plus Nike.

Where's the extra money going to come from for these much higher salaries? While the Cailtlin Clark effect is real, its not "everyone gets triple the salary" real. According to many reports, they still stand to LOSE money in 2024 despite all the new interest.

NBA subsidization based on their insane TV deal they just got would be my guess.

Anyone else hopping?

I don’t think so, but who knows.

I was also told that Miles was offered $1M by a school.

There were a couple of players that didn’t get along. It sounds like HH is doing some recruiting herself.

They basically said the program is incredibly busy with the portal right now and it’s messy.

I’m bummed to lose Kate. I thought she had a good foundation to work with but was still raw.

I don’t think Emma is a power five player so I’m not really sad to see her transfer.

I watched Koval and thought "Zach Edey type project." Give her two full years of getting body and footwork together, and maybe we get two years of something really good close to the basket --- even REALLY GOOD. Her loss is pretty disturbing actually. I don't see how people can watch what's happening right now and not think that there was something VERY "off" that was masked during the season. I have no idea where the "off-ness" resides (two or three overly sensitive players vs staff not being very holistic or clever about personnel management or both or something else). But there seems to be trouble. Soni might have been even more important for team stability than we thought behind the scenes. And now even she will be gone.

Interesting. I always figured Ivey was a players coach. Makes you wonder if she just totally catered to HH and people finally just got tired of it.

Hope we can reload with players with more than one year of eligibility but that is never easy at ND.
Better do something. I’m only coming up with four returning players plus one freshman who is apparently recovering from knee surgery

Certainly feels that way - there’s got be something going on behind the scenes here. My guess is also locker room issues, possibly related to HH. HH’s comments were polarizing & none of the players ever seemed close to her aside from Prosper. No idea if Niele enabled, but if she did, obviously that’s worse.

Either way, this all feels like a defining moment for the program, one where we’re not heading in the right direction. They now have a boatload of work to do in the portal.

Really sad to see her go/feel bad for her. Two hip surgeries and mono or pneumonia... can't remember which. She has looked sick for months.

I guess that these (for me) mind-boggling developments won't let me alone, so I'm giving one last "what-the-hell" gush here.

I cannot remember any year where the available roster for the coming year has looked so terrifyingly underpowered to meet a season.

We have currently (at best?) five allegedly ACC quality players: Hidalgo, Prosper, Bransford, Watson, and the new player, Macy.

PG: OK. Hannah. Great.
Two Guard: none.
Small forward: Bransford (coming off serious injury), plus Prosper, plus Macy (newcomer of unknown level of readiness.)
Power forward: none.
Center: Watson (coming off serious injury.)

Holy effing hell.

......... counting on transfer portal to draw at least four good solid players into what must seem like a troubled team?

Holy effing hell.

Summary of current mental state: Holy effing hell.

Given the way the team started and the way it finished, whatever happened must have occurred late in the season.

It is truly insane...especially just a few months after they peaked at number one in the country! Just mind boggling.
