who is the most disliked ND beat reporter inside the Gug and why?
Driskell, Loy(rip)...after that it would be a LARGE gap until the next guy...who might be Prister..who has had his moments/run-ins with the staff...but honestly minor stuff that was patched up and I wouldn't even say Prister is "disliked" by the Gug. Just butted heads a few times.

Why?
Driskell(and really anyone associated with IB): is just abrasive, says too much, seemingly has little respect for processes and standards within the Gug and generally Freeman and Co don't really like beat writers to have a ton of contact with families. It can muddle or confuse messaging and Driskell (or anyone) could say something the program doesn't want said or in a way it doesn't want it said. Usual stuff.

Loy: Was tolerated for a while, but most everyone found him incredibly annoying..including recruits. Loy was maybe the most mocked person inside the Gug over the last few years of his tenure. Recruits/players constantly shit on him. I've personally seen it happen.

He was a "useful idiot" of sorts for them for a while but Freeman keeps everything REALLY tight in the program and Loy again..would say too much or take recruits side in things at the expense of the program. Coaches at one point basically told players/recruits/families to stop talking to Loy...and his sourcing basically became low level GAs/staffers or whatever Bowden would throw Loy because Loy would suck up to him.

Loy at one point nearly lost his credentials after his "article/interview" on/with Dante Moore at the All-American Bowl where he let Moore lie unchecked about what happened between ND and Moore and passed the blame off to ND's staff basically being incompetent. Prister had to somewhat beg forgiveness for Loy and have the program back off. No coincidence that after that Loy's intel started to fall off hard.

Late Kelly, Early Freeman years so 2019ish to present
Boring(and recent) but Faraimo is on that short list.
Just going through guys that were "surprises" or 50/50s that ND won..

Foskey was a real battle
Aamil Wagner
Drayk Bowen was a worry for a bit...he never waivered much..but there was some battling there.
ND fought really hard for Tae Johnson

I don't know tough question. For better or worse ND recruiting has been kind of "boring" in the late Kelly era to Freeman. ND has done a good job of putting classes together and keeping them together(ID'ing fits etc). So it's kind of difficult to parse the difference between "ND was shocked they got this guy" vs "ND had to fight tooth and nail to win/keep him"

I'm sure Driskell's intel on the OL transfers and Rudolph's communication issues went over well with Marcus Freeman.
Yeah...went great!

Driskell always says too much and it actually causes issues for the players on the team because it's pretty easy to figure out who is saying it based on the tone and timing.

He has also burned sources live on the air before and thrown kids/parents under the bus.

Loy’s love letter to Moore is an all-timer

Loy carrying water for Knight last year was absolutely something.
Loy knows where his bread is buttered. If he doesn't carry the water, he loses access to the players. Loy's biggest issue was that he carried the water to the point of undermining/disrespecting the program...and never learned how to parse a message out.

I never read the Dante Moore letter because I wasn't gonna pay 247 just for that privilege. How bad did it get?

Probably shouldn’t be too specific but I worked in a Gug-adjacent department and let me tell you by the end of BK’s tenure they were not even attempting to hide their disdain for Driskell from him or anyone else lol.
I can't speak/say if he was ever formally "banned"...but there is a reason he's never at a press conference and they have to send other guys from IB to them from time to time.

Cliffs notes:

Loy let Moore spin some tail about how his silent commitment to ND never actually happened. The coaches misunderstood something he said at a meeting as a commitment ..on down that line. Basically laying the entire blame for the scenario at ND's feet. Loy never pushed back(knowing full well what Moore was saying was untrue) and I don't know if he said it in the story or behind the scenes on the board but was effusive in his praise of Moore and how great of a kid he is and refused to lay any of the blame at his feet...and rolled with the "it was just a misunderstanding" angle.

It was a mess.

Landed:

Nix, Shembo, Lynch, Ishaq Williams, Daniels, Tuitt, Neal, Shepard, Bryant, Folston, Nyles Morgan, Alize Jones, St. Brown, Brock Wright, Kevin Austin, Foskey, Kyle Hamilton, Botelho, Watts, Kollie, Styles Jr. , Sneed, Tuihalamaka, Wagner, Merriweather, Jagusah, Ausberry, Greathouse, Bowen, Flores, Carr, Kedron Young, Lambert, Faraimo, Dallas Golden.

All of the above either decommitted at one time, considered decommitting, was a coin flip, or considered highly unlikely, at one time or another.
Carr is the biggest shocker on this list. Was he considering decommiting at one point?
