Do you have the memory of a goldfish? Two of our best Interior Linemen of the last decade have been from CA. So was our sacks leader from the last decade. Twice in the last 5 years our leading receiver has been from CA. There have been plenty of good players we’ve signed from the state, there are plenty more who would’ve been great if we had signed them. You don’t cut bait on an entire region, not if you’re Notre Dame.

Don't forget the all-time winningest quarterback in Notre Dame history.

Agree our hit rate on the SoCal Catholic schools - in particular - is not as high as it feels like it should be. (Especially given how many regular students they send here). There are reasons for that, some might be able to control, some we can't. You don't quit recruiting the second-biggest metro area in the country though. That's nuts.

“Cali kids never work out” and “3 stars from SEC country are worth the same as 4 stars from the Midwest” are my least favorite truisms that I’ve heard on ND boards. People will say them while completely ignoring every single data point that doesn’t align with their argument. Some kids from CA don’t work out, some kids from any state don’t work out.

I don’t think there is a school in the country, let alone a state, that ND should write off. If there is legitimate interest and a chance the kid can enroll, you recruit him. We have the resources, it’s not like we’re married to the prospect. Some won’t work out, like Katoanga. We wouldn’t recruited him if he wasn’t receptive to our initial advances, and he isn’t the only guy on our board.
