Agreed. Clausen was much better than Quinn. His D just gave up 50 a game. And I wouldn’t sell Carr short of RL just yet.
Give Clausen the '18, '20, or '24 defense, he'd have won a natty with any of those supporting casts.
I'll disagree (I think) with these two ideas. The ND OL under Clausen wasn't good enough to stand up to some of the elite teams they would have needed to beat. We constantly couldn't run the ball in short yardage in those years under Weis. (I'm assuming the context is Clausen gets the '18, 20, 24 defense...but the offensive players stay the same?)

Less tangible is I don't know if Clausen had "it"...especially as a leader. That stuff matters. By 2009 a lot of guys were already on "Team Crist".

Generally, I think the first comment massively underrates Quinn. He was a back to back Heisman finalist, won the Maxwell award, Unitas, and Baugh. He was a 2nd and 3rd team AA. He wasn't as natural a thrower of the football as Clausen but I think he was the better quarterback all-around.

Saying Clausen was "much better" than Quinn is a bridge too far for me.

Every program in Texas has bottomless pockets of "big oil money." Aside from UT sometimes that money doesn't seem to buy them the kind of success that anyone outside Texas notices.
Your underestimating how much of that is focused in the Odessa/Midland area. There's very little big time oil money in central Texas.

Texas Tech, to be fair has a shockingly good football history considering they are legit in the middle of nowhere West Texas. The only thing between them and UTEP is the money

Book was better than Golson
Hey, I think Book is underrated or underappreciated by ND fans. 2014 Golson was insane before the team collapsed due to injury and internal BS...and 2012 Golson QB'd the team(with help) to a NCG appearance. I think both were very good and hold both in very high regard, but I was taking the overall comments about talent/natural ability...and Golson has Book in that category.

Golson turned the ball over 22 times in 2014. ND had a historically bad defense but he played a role in that collapse, too.

What exactly do you disagree with here we missed out on 3 WR’s that were silents in 2025 they all ended up going somewhere else this is known
I think he (and literally everyone else) disagrees with you comparing the two situations, but continue to beat the drum on the same 3 talking points like you're the only person who realizes these problems.

Over on the On3 board, Nakos is saying he does not expect Patrick Suddes to be a factor into this search.

I would have thought coming off a national championship appearance we would of had a lot more good news and momentum.

Positives:
1. We didn't lose anyone significant to the transfer portal
2. We brought in some difference makers in the transfer portal

Negatives:
1. We lose 2 of our top position coaches. Golden and Delan
2. We settle at Defensive Coordinator after not landing our top two choice on a guy who no team in the college football playoff would even consider.
3. We lose our GM and strike out on our top choice
4. We have a big Junior day and only come out with 1 commitment

Golson was also a Heisman finalist favorite entering the month of November and after ASU him and BK had a big falling out. Still played winning football vs NWestern but by that point the relationship was toast. Lots behind the scenes there.

1. They were always going to leave
2. They didn't settle. Settling would have been just giving the job the Mickens
3. We let our gm leave.
4. We had a bunch of early commitments after last years junior day, and that class isn't highly regarded as you have pointed out many times. Im guessing they are waiting to give kids the green light to commit.

On paper, the negatives are what you say they are, but there are nuances to everything.

Blanchard is looking like he was the top choice for GM, but there are another dozen candidates that can do the job at ND, and do it well.

But, I really have to laugh at your junior day comment. A January Junior Day is not about securing half a dozen or so immediate commitments. You'll likely see probably six or even up to ten of those guys eventually commit to ND, but the event itself was getting some players more exposed to the school itself, having more in-depth, and personal talks with players & staff within the ND program.

4) you’re not filling up the class in February
