214 days until he gets to face a $4M QB on the road leading what was a top 5 offense last year.

The guy has a punchable face and is one of the worst recruiters in CFB history.

That’s all I have about him right now.

If Mickens is Co-DC I get it. I don’t think Marcus wants to get burnt with a first time play caller after the Elston fiasco. Also a lot of stronger candidates (as in current DCs) might not have wanted to be in a Co-DC position.

If he’s not this seems like a real head scratcher

I mean there is just no good option if we are hell-bent on keeping Mickens / but dont trust him to be a DC by himself. Ash is basically in a lame duck position.

I don't understand all the handwringing. We replaced a non-recruiter in Golden with a non-recruiter in Ash.

We hire a coach with a specialty in the secondary while we clamor, as a fanbase, for the current secondary coach to be given more responsibilities. I'm viewing this more as Mickens will be running the show with Ash as the seasoned sounding board, but will await introductory press conferences.

Coming off a complex elbow injury and only came back to school because the NFL told him he stinks

And it’s hard to even get emotionally charged for a week one game, regardless of opponent anymore, knowing the playoff has 12 spots and we consistently get better as the season progresses under MF.

With that said, I hope they kill Miami

And Ash should be in a position to need to keep the points down. Which should take a lot of pressure off of him. The offense is primed to be able to score a lot of points next season.

The defense is kinda stacked next year anyway so he shouldn’t need to be a scheme guru.

It would seem to be fairly obvious that the only reason Ash was hired was that both Ash and Mickens were willing to make this work.

If Freeman viewed Mickens as not having the skill-set to grow into a DC position, he wouldn't have hired Ash. He would've hired a more prestigious name to be full DC and if that meant losing Mickens, so be it.

I cannot see any scenario where Freeman hired a second tier DC just to give Mickens a "title" in hopes that placates him.

Mickens is the future, Ash is a bridge to help get Mickens to where he needs to be.

People probably have to realize Mike Mickens won’t be here forever lol
You’re more likely to keep him if he’s the DC instead of this half measure. And when he would leave then you can bring in a top tier replacement rather than being tied to Chris Ash.

If he was DC, he would likely leave in 2 or 3 years
