I’m down for cutting work from home. I know I am a person that cannot do well working from home, and I would figure there are a lot of wfh types that don’t do much all day. Also if people quit, then that sort of helps shrink the federal workforce. Win win.

Canceling work from home for all federal employees was just an asshole move to me.

I do hope they know our economy does rely on illegals and they are focusing in on illegals with criminal records.

Why take 20k troops out of Europe? Is force projection a bad thing? Questionable foreign policy so far in the first week.
Taking 20k troops out of Europe probably for redeployment to the southern border

It’s a stealth layoff. People quit. I’m fine with it to cleanup the bloated gov workforce. Recall most of our job growth was gov jobs.

DOGE getting to 420 made sense. There’s plenty more to cut.
DOGE was bullshit from the start. Musk has already backed off the $2 trillion number and said $1 trillion would be epic lol. I doubt they even hit 50 billion.

You rubes ate it up.
illegals are getting deported, without a bill that you rubes said was needed. Cuts are happening and we are leading with strength, not stupidity. I’m feeling really good about the pace of play so far.

Why do you say this? Majority of my remote workers are fantastic not all and it's a real pain finding replacements that are qualified.
There's a big difference in accountability and ability to get rid of underperformers in the private sector and the Federal government. My wife is a supervisor for a federal agency with a couple of dozen employees, about half of whom work remotely. Some of them do a great job, but most are unproductive, lazy, and do the bare minimum - if that - to collect a paycheck they aren't really earning, and her hands are tied. It's almost impossible to force them to do a better job, let alone get rid of them. Very different in the private sector.

The fucking gall of these people. “We can’t deport these violent criminals, we need flowers!!!”

You telling me dudes wouldn’t be psyched that they had a legitimate excuse that they didn’t get flowers for Valentine’s Day?
The people who criticize us for liking Mexican restaurants are my favorite. They clearly paid no attention to how negligent they were. The “who will think about the crops” folks are a close second.

If your wife loses the great workers as I'm sure WFH is important to them. Does she feel confident with her team?

100%

The only argument for remote is lifestyle and happiness. The government is so inefficient, especially in Washington. Everyone I talk to says the only reason they haven’t returned to office is retention.

I’m here in DC a lot. I’m at these buildings all the time. Half the time people are waiting for emails and looking for people. Waiting is 50% of the job in the federal space here in DC.
Sounds like stuff that could be done at home? Not sure why the MAGA crowd is so against WFH now.

And now fully on the hate Columbia train

People are waiting for emails and looking for people because the people they are looking for are at home. If they were in office it would be more efficient. You can’t walk down the hall to talk to anyone anymore. Everything is an email that you wait 4 days for a simple reply. Waiting is 50% of the job because nobody is in the office

Shouldn't we use the national guard for that? Isn't the guard trained more for domestic issues than regular military units?

Also I'm all for beefing up the boarder and securing it.

I suppose, I guess that falls on the leadership/management.

No reason anyone else shouldn't be able to jump on a zoom call within 30 mins of notification.

I actually "work" about 2 to 4 hours a day and get everything done and more. When I worked at the office majority of the day was spent talking to others and watching the clock

I doubt she'll lose the really good ones. They're committed to their job and do great work no matter whether it's in the office or from home. The lazy useless ones will either have to step up their game when forced to head to the office, or will quit when they can no longer get a paycheck for watching TV at home.

I'm seeing an awful lot of bright individuals taking victory laps a week into Trump's presidency. Seems a bit premature, but I'm guessing premature isn't something new for these individuals.

I would be willing to bet she loses minimum 25% of her WFH staff. Specially if they were hired as WFH.

Again not sure why people are against people having a good work-life balance.

How does anybody have a productive zoom meeting? Unless it’s a standard reporting meeting, teleconferences are so antithetical to collaborative work.

Zoom meetings are generally the worst and I do 50% of mine with the camera off.

But the same information comes across as an in person meeting. Plus most of them are recorded and we can go back to the information if needed.

How many trillions do you want to bet this administration will add to the deficit?

Nobody's against people having a good work/life balance. We're against those who abuse WFH to do little or no actual work when not directly supervised.

I don’t think so. We have these massive federal buildings that lay vacant. Just in the federal triangle that’s about 3 million sq ft that lays empty the majority of the time just in that one area. We have federal workers working remote in different countries which is a huge security issue that they can’t do anything about really if remote is allowed. I was looking for someone 6 months ago and eventually found her in Puerto Rico where she’s been living. Her subordinates hadn’t heard from her in months. It’s a bigger problem that just “working”… “at home”
The best part is everyone acting like it’s their right to WFH. Some complain that they will now need to get a babysitter. That’s the best considering they were supposed to be working and not babysitting their kids. lol

There’s a reason companies like AT&T and Amazon are requiring employees to return to the office.

Okay yes we can all agree with that, why not single out those people? Why punish the whole government workforce? Form a lazy work department and go after these employees and deport them to the unemployment line.

So you have a part time job? (Rhetorical question). Government is trying to be efficient. In your example, why pay you a full time wage if your job only requires 2-4 hours per day? I’m not a huge fan of an hourly wage and calling things full time or part time but this is the very thing they are trying to fix. Being a well oiled machine in most cases cannot operate efficiently with a bunch 2-4 hour workers.

Seems reasonable to use the guard.

Looking into the European force drawdown, or at least the messaged drawdown, it makes complete sense. We have those troops there to deter against Russian aggression for the benefit of European nations. We also do training exercises and share TTPs with our European allies and it costs us A LOT of money. Many people don't realize how much it is actually costs us. Trump is negotiating to get them to foot more of the bill.

Foot the bill OR give us Greenland. I think the case is that is critically important in the future and Denmark is not positioned to use it strategically and we are. Denmark is also not exactly an important or relevant partner, so they should let people who know how to land rockets use it.

That’s easy money.

The GOP isn’t serious about reducing the deficit.

I say this because they don’t want to raise taxes and if they were to cut social security, medicare and military spending to the point they would need to in order to balance the budget and bring down the deficit without those tax increases it would be a an absolute calamity. They would then get creamed in the mid terms and next Presidential cycle because they would have nobody else to point the finger at.

We’ll see.
