Really conflicting reporting. John Brice keeps saying that our team's total NIL spend this year was around $7M give or take. O'Malley said this morning that he was told by a rock solid source that it was closer to $15M. So immediately you have a large discrepancy.

The poster on II that everyone says is an insider agreed with O'Malley's number and said it would likely grow and we would become more aggressive about spending on high schoolers in the coming years. People hold that guy's word in high regard but I think he reads like a bit of a sunshine pumper so I'm not sure how true any of that is.
I like O'Malley and have no doubt that he was told that, but I'd put more stock in what Brice was told as he seems to know what the NIL payrolls for the blue blood programs are. He wrote an article and mentioned that multiple sources told him that Georgia's payroll this year was $12 Million, and followed up on a podcast that ND's payroll was "half or a little more than half of Georgia's" which would be about $7 Million.

I'm not holding my breath on ND consistently dropping the biggest (or among the biggest) bags for HS recruits that they desperately want. ISD talked about how they nearly whiffed on all the recruits, that were either uncommitted or were waffling (Taylor) they hosted for OV's over the summer. They went something like 2 for 10 or 2 for 11. That doesn't happen if you go all-in dropping bags. What's interesting is that Mike Frank was a bit cocky over the summer, believing that ND was going to start dropping bags for the 2025 class, but then around the early NSD, he said that ND needed to change and start dropping bags.

ND really should have paid Fisher. That is a guy they may have been able to keep. I know he wanted to go to the NFL, but someone OSU convinced these guys back.
But alas, it would have helped but not sure enough.
Still have to get the talent to keep the talent.
More freak skill players are needed.
Reading between the lines from what the II folks said, it sounded like Fisher was just done with school and wanted to go to the NFL. I have no doubt they went to him and asked him if there was a number it would take to get him to come back and would've taken care of him if he gave them a number, like they did with Cross/Mills/Watts last year.

The problem is that if the current House settlement with the clearing house stands there is not going to be any above board spending on high schoolers anymore. That's why Michigan, Oregon, and some others emptied the bank this past cycle.

In retrospect, this was probably the year to open the check book on some HS WRs, Deuce, etc,

$15mil for ND roster is a bold face lie lol. Who are the big earners? Leonard, Morrison? - Love broke onto the scene this year so previously modest...I'm sure Cross, MIlls and Watts are making some money.
$15mil though?? Not even close I'm sorry.
Some numbers that we know according to Brice:

Georgia - approximately $12 Million
ND - around $7 Million
Ohio State and Oregon - $20+ Million

Me too but where does he fit? He didn't receive a target last night, and, at minimum, Cam Williams and Malachi Fields are entering the scene.
I'm excited for Cam Williams, but feel like we should hold off on penciling him into the lineup until we hear he's coming along. All we've heard is that he wasn't ready as a freshman, not that he would be ready as a sophomore

The House settlement doesn't impact third-party payments right?

Tate is one of the guys who ND could of had if they dropped a bag. IDC what anyone says we aren't winning a title doing things like we currently are. It's all good and dandy paying guys on your current roster and they deserve money but at the end of the day you gotta go out and get some difference makers at WR and DL. How different would this years team look with Tate at WR/ RYAN WINGO and Caleb Downs at Safety? Maybe a guy like Mylan Graham enters the portal from Ohio State or Noah Rogers

1. Every NIL payment has to go through clearing house now with the expressed intent of stopping pay-for-play.

2. Direct text from the DoE it applying to third party NIL:
Schools remain responsible for ensuring that they are offering equal athletic opportunities in their athletic programs, including in the NIL context. A school may violate Title IX if the school fails to provide equivalent benefits, opportunities, and treatment in the components of the school’s athletic program that relate to NIL activities. Thus, schools must be mindful of their Title IX obligations regarding the components of their athletic programs as they navigate the NIL landscape. These obligations apply regardless of whether student-athletes ultimately secure NIL benefits through their school or with third parties.

OCR has long recognized that a school has Title IX obligations when funding from private sources, including private donations and funds raised by booster clubs, creates disparities based on sex in a school’s athletic program or a program component. 30 The fact that funds are provided by a private source does not relieve a school of its responsibility to treat all of its student-athletes in a nondiscriminatory manner.31 It is possible that NIL agreements between student-athletes and third parties will create similar disparities and therefore trigger a school’s Title IX obligations.

This team would look different if the team was healthy... they absolutely had enough talent and coaching to win a title. Notre Dame is so much closer to a championship than many realize, apparently.

Having said that, yeah, all-americans at WR and DL are welcome in South Bend.

And we still haven't seen an ND team with a fantastic defense *and* and all-american QB in modern history. That could change too.

ND is really really close.

Bullshit on this, we are good enough to win a Natty now! We were right there and we have the talent to do it. Simply didn't show up. We can play against anyone. We just knocked out 3 top ten teams. I'm all for paying players but Tate was playing game with the market hard. Id honestly rather have a guy like Love on the team who bet on himself.

Paying studs is an over simplification of things. Did it work for Ohio state? Yes it did but it didn’t work for A&M and Oregon. Chemistry and culture still have to play a part. I like NDs current approach to the portal and Anyone who says ND didn’t belong are lying to themselves. The injuries finally bit them in the ass. It happens

Carnell Tate would be the best receiver on 90% of teams.
Think 90% is too low.
There are 134 FBS teams. Off the top of my head, I cant think of 13 that have a better #1 that Tate.
Mizzou
Arizona (Tetairoa)
Colorado (Travis Hunter)
USC, although I think they got raided pretty hard
UGA (after their WR spree)
