This team would beat the '88 team and the '93 team....so I agree, this may be the best ND team I've watched in my entire life. Sad that they are without Benmo and Mills.
Yes. And I am very confident that next year's team will be better. Maybe significantly better since the offense should take another step forward.Connelly says this is the "best" ND team since 1992 per SP+ advanced stats, got me thinking... with a locked in top 5 finish, a major bowl victory (2x), and a program record in wins...
Is this the best season since 1988? Certainly since 1993, right?
This got me all kinds of fired up.This Ohio State team isn't the second coming .... not to derail the thread, but I truly believe 2019 LSU, 2020 Alabama, 2011 Alabama, etc. would annihilate this team. Hear me out regarding this Ohio State and why Notre Dame can and, more importantly, will win....
Point being, I've listened to some ND podcasts and have read a lot of "regardless what happens Monday, it's been a hell of a ride" or "we're happy to be here and this season has been a tremendous success". Fuck that. Notre Dame can win this thing. Notre Dame has proven it can go toe to toe and blow to blow with anyone and physically dominate. Notre Dame's fast, athletic, and relentless. You've got elite coaching, a dynamic quarterback, a top 3 running back room, a consistent offensive line (especially given the injuries), capable WRs and TEs, an elite secondary, a fast, physical, strong defense. The team simply does not quit. Yes, some guys are going to have to step it up and play lights out (e.g. Clark, Sneed, Oben, Logan Thomas, Vilimia-Asa, Gray, Tuihalmaka), but this absolutely can beat Ohio State. It's mind boggling some of the predictions I've seen (mainly from Ohio State fans). We all know Ohio State and Ryan Day do not like physicality (see the Michigan game). Before the game starts, when they're warming up, Ohio State needs to be viscerally uncomfortable about the upcoming 60 minutes... Notre Dame has to take it to them. Lean on them...wear them down...and then break them.
- They're coming in this game with 2 losses already. They also had a couple of "shaky" wins as well (see Nebraska and Penn State).
- Will Howard, like Leonard, has limitations with his arm. Howard, however, cannot run as well as Leonard.
- J.T. Tuimoloau and Sawyer are really good players. They are not, however, up to Carter, Mykel Williams, or Jalon Walker's level. Point being, Notre Dame's faced better.
- Jeremiah Smith and Egbuka are great. Tate's good as well. But, arguably Notre Dame's biggest strength (you can make an argument RB group > secondary) is its secondary. Ohio State WRs are going to make their plays, but at least Notre Dame isn't subjected to a "physical" mismatch that you simply cannot account for (e.g., Tyler Warren). And, again, Howard is no Joe Burrow... if ND can generate enough consistent pressure on Howard, that will really neutralize their receiving talent.
- They've got good line play....well, so does A&M. So does Georgia. So does Penn State. Point being, Notre Dame has played comparable talent (some, with better individual talent) than Ohio State. This isn't anything new to Notre Dame.
- Ohio State has been on a rampage since losing to Michigan. Well, take a closer look.
- Tennessee and Nico were abysmal on the road all year (lost @ Ohio State, lost @ Georgia, lost @ Arkansas). At OU, Nico was 13/21, 194 yards, 1 TD. At Arkansas, Nico was 17/29, 158 yards. At Georgia, Nico was 20/33, 167 yards. At Vanderbilt, Nico was 18/26, 257 yards, 4TDs, 1 INT. At Ohio State, Nico was 14/31, 104 yards. Other than Vanderbilt, Nico and the Tennessee offense was extremely pedestrian on the road.
- Oregon was an impressive win. I don't personally believe Oregon was as great as people may have believed (see the Idaho game, Boise game, Wisconsin game), but I'm not going to knock Ohio State on that .... that was an impressive win.
- Texas had Ohio State 1st and goal on the goal line to tie the game and potentially go into OT. Sarkisian, the dolt, got too cute and wanted to run a sweep 10 yards deep and we know how the rest played out. Just run a QB sneak under center ... it's first down. You'll get in ....
Go get 'em, men. Go. Fucking. Irish.
This is fair. The reason ND likely doesn't win this game is that it is a lot to ask this banged up offense to score 24 points against OSU.You guys should worry less about Ohio St offense (our defense will be fine) and more about Ohio St defense.
I know the game has changed big time meaning not sure that '88 team would beat UGA or PSU this year either. I think Rice would get murdered....Mainly because he wasn't a great passer and these LB's and DB's are just build different 35 years later.I'm not sure if they beat the '88 team. I'd love to see that game. I do think they beat the '93 team.
I assume he was kidding about the rules.Awesome. Not sure the point of your post though.
You wouldn’t invite opposing fans to your home and neither would I.
However if someone does invite “close” friends to watch they shouldn’t be subjected to any rules.

So you think I'm really going to kick them in the balls? It's a light hearted joke list that I'm creating to get a reaction. LOL
Have them bring their own food/ snacks. Bucknuts are cheap and will eat all your food and drink all of your beer.Have some close friends that are pOSU fans that we might invite over to our place to watch the game. While they are "mostly reasonable", they are pOSU fans after all. I thought it might be good to lay down some ground rules.
1. Anyone who refers to pOSU as THEE Ohio State University will be asked to leave immediately.
2. Anyone who even comes close to lifting their arms over their head to start the O-H-I-O cheer, will be immediately kicked in the balls, no questions asked.
I'm looking for other suggestions.
Like Granger watching the Freemans from outside their home on family game nights...3. They have to watch outside through your windows.
Their adirondack chairs are very comfortableLike Granger watching the Freemans from outside their home on family game nights...
I generally watch alone. Not by my choice, but by others. Alcohol makes you THROW things.

I’m with ya. I’m probably a bad friend for this, but for 3 1/2 hours a week during the season my non ND loving friends can FTFOi couldnt stomach watching this game with casual fans of any team even if they like ND
Never realized that Ryan Clark wanted to go to ND out of HS.
Because Ohio State has dumb traditions. Why stop close friends from enjoying the game and doing their ritual traditions?
I bet his glasses aren't even prescription.Cam Newton is a great villain for ND. Just such a complete dumbass lol
Just wait until you open the gameday chat after the first possessionWe have essentially been completely counted out of this game. At this point, only ND fans think we stand a chance.
Good. I like it that way.We have essentially been completely counted out of this game. At this point, only ND fans think we stand a chance.
I’m with you. I prefer to watch with the wife and no one else. She usually gets nervous shortly after kickoff and will go to the bedroom which makes it even better.i couldnt stomach watching this game with casual fans of any team even if they like ND
I hope he's not taking any calls from a one Ryan Day! Only one coach beat Notre Dame this season. Let him tell you about it.
