Good news Burgess is impressing at DL in the bowl practices he’s gonna be hard to keep off the field next year so he’s gonna be another guy fighting for snaps

Transfer rankings are incredibly dumb and if I see them referenced one more goddamn time, let alone before our season even ends, I may just have a brain aneurysm.
21 of the top 25 portal players were on playoff teams or damn near playoff teams (Ole Miss/Bama/Miami). So we may hate them, but there is no arguing that Downs, Gabriel, Bond, Judkins, Ward, Howard, and Leonard to name a few make sense they were so impactful.

Yup. They are caught in there “method” of theoretically projecting to the NFL and their HS rankings being a reference point versus clear better actual production. There is also no sample size to say they are accurate by any metric. They should not be used for anything besides a handy list

They only do the rankings for clicks, I doubt they want to undertake it even
One must rely on method and order. Excite your little grey cells.

How many current portal players have the production of those guys and where do they currently rank?

This portal class is significantly worse than last year. The gap is huge.

We don’t need rankings to say Cam Ward is an amazing transfer get and Malik Murphy is not. But why are they similarly ranked then?

HS classes are by and large all relatively equal. You have thousands of names going through a natural 4 year cycle. The portal is not that. Nobody got fired this year. Certainly not a Nick Saban (Bond, Downs) for example

Agreed it's not nearly as deep, that's not up for debate. But I would debate you on Malik Murphy wasn't similarly ranked as Ward he had a transfer grade of 89 and 14 QB's ahead of him. Cam was a 96 and only Gabriel ranked higher with Howard and Riley right below.

All I'm saying is when teams in the past won Nattys they came out the following year with one of the best recruiting classes. I'd like to see ND make this run and end up plugging the holes they have without it feeling like pulling teeth....portal or recruiting I don't care. And no need to say it, I know ND isn't like FSU so they have some obstacles to overcome.

Find someone who looks at you like NDFAN2008 looks at DT's.

I honestly had no clue you liked legit speed for our outside guys. To be frank, I'm completely caught off guard by this and it completely mind blowing to me. If we are being honest with each other.
Not necessarily the outside guys but on the field at all times a la Fuller, Tate (Rocket is asking too much)

Fields would be number 1 on 90% of teams in college if you think we are gonna go out and get a Jeremiah Smith or something it aint happening.
A guy that needed 4 years to be the #1 at uVa would be the #1 at 90% of colleges?? No way, this past year he would've been #2 at most of the ranked teams, #3 at some (Oregon) and possibly #4 (OSU) at others. Furthermore, only 25% (Top 35) of that 90% would really matter and several more such as SJSU, Arizona, L'ville, Colorado etc he would be #2 or #3 guy. People are acting like we signed Randy Moss again but need to realize this isn't even Claypool or Boykin level productivity. Solid not spectacular

Murphy is not?? I'm guessing they see a former 5* who just lit up the Duke record book in his 1st year as a starter in college with perhaps the strongest arm in college (82yd toss in camp). Tools + Production goes a long way. I do question decision making, because going to the Beavers without Ocho Cinco and Houshmanzadeh is asinine at this point.

In agreeance with this portal class compared to last years 1000%.

Tell me you didn’t watch Duke without telling me. He literally was pushed out in favor of the Tulane QB and now is at a ruined Oregon State program lol

I watched 5 of their games and 2 live. You say he was "pushed" out but he signed a ridiculous NIL deal to go to Oregon St that Duke simply didnt match. I dont think they counter if he was "pushed" out and I like Mensah but Murphy has a major league arm.

Boykin's best year he had 872yds and 8TDs with passes coming from Ian Book.

Fields just put up 800+yds and 5TDs two straight seasons with passes coming from Anthony Colandrea.

We don't know how good he will be at ND but we are not comparing similar situations here.

I can agree with your last comment but I see a guy who can catch for 650 which isn't earth shattering by any means but is solid for a team with a stable of backs. The guy is a solid player nothing more nothing less is my point and not the 2nd coming.

Think he meant as original portal entries

He obviously didn't watch a single Duke game Murphy isn't that good and is a turnover machine
Sidelines for NC State game and attended UConn game. He had two games with 3 picks but if you watched the games he was playing "hero" ball trying to rally his team back. 26 TDs to 12 INTs isnt the worst thing for a 1st year starter with Duke's WR core.

650 yards receiving would have been our leading receiver by almost 200 yards or an increase of 42% to Beau.

Sign me up.
I agree but just seems like we're "settling" and "content" with that type of production. Guess I can't expect a Weis offense with multiple 1k wrs but dont want a Davie offense with 600-700 yd leading wrs either. I think we can shoot fkr a happy medium between the two especially after what Denbrock did at LSU, and yes I know ww have an "elite" RB room but LSU did run the ball very good as well.
