I would guess Jagusah or Lambert is LT, Wagner is RT, a OG who has snaps under their belt transfers out and a big mess inside of figuring out the trio left

Agree. I just don’t see how he is gonna lose his spot after this year unless both those guys are #1 pick material. My best guess would be move Knapp inside or have Jagusah move inside and Knapp stay at LT. We are in a good position at the line for years to come.

I think he would start on the interior. But if we’re putting all our eggs in a RS FR off injury at QB, I want our best pass protectors at OT. Knapp is certainly one of the best 5 OL, doesn’t make him one of the best 2 OTs. The staff sees Knapp has someone who can play OG or C.

Fun speculations no doubt.

My less entertaining view is that our OLine coach will be LOTS smarter than any of us about who is the better LT and who is best suited to become a guard. (we already have a damm good line anyway by the way.)

Just think of the names being thrown around (Schrauth, Lambert, Knapp, Jagusah, Wagner, and a BUNCH of other "starters".) Can't even get half of them on the field. None of the guys named is likely a center for instance.

I'll leave the somewhat data=poor debate to everyone else, and just revel in the thought of the power.

Funny I remember a month or so back (signing day perhaps?) that some people here had Will Black penciled in as starting LT next year. Kid has a very bright future I’m sure but there is so much talent in the OLine room already.

He is the guy we've seen hollering violence in the pre-game huddles, isn't he?

That sounds like the BEAT THEIR A$$ in-game "leadership" the other guys need & are lacking.

If so, that might be enough to stay out there even if Craig, or somebody, is a touch better.

Then, it's Schrauth at Left Guard and Wagner at Right Tackle retaining spots.

That leaves Left Tackle and Right Guard. Really hard to believe that Jagusah isn't one of those.

So, Knapp, Spindler, Pendleton, Lambert, Black for the other spot and the rest "second team"?

Tell me that almost any other team in the nation wouldn't have that second team as their first team.

Offensive left to right. But it could be flipped as well. My opinion is Wagner has been the best OL throughout the entire season. So why not put him at the premium position of LT. Saying that I can see the reasoning to leaving him at RT, if it is not broke don't fix it.

Regarding "sides" of the offensive line: a lot of guys are themselves just better one side rather than the other. Some of it is strength, some is grappling arm and outside hand, some of that is which foot is quicker and/or more coordinated or core-power-connected with the upper body etc. Almost no linemen are automatically easily exchangeable one side to the other. Hell, one of my brothers had WAY different sight out of one eye than the other.

The offensive run scheme also matters. Some teams deliberately slant their offensive patterns one way or another (RBs for instance sometimes have a huge preference on which way they want to suddenly cut downhill --- think OJ Simpson, who could barely cut running left but was unstoppable running right.) Staffs know things like this. I can recall old Oklahoma teams (Stoops era I think) which deliberately had a smaller faster side of the OLine (the Right) and a MAMMOTH side (to the left). When their LT and LG broke the huddle (the left guard's name was Boatright or something like that) you thought they were two guys who had just eaten two other guys.

Point?: Wagner may simply be better "right." ... and others similarly. Maybe not. Maybe so. Interchangeability is not automatic. It's one reason, even in pros, that "shuffling" occurs.

I prefer Wagner staying at RT. He seems to like it and he actually has more of a LT build but has always played RT. May be a situation where he is more suited for RT. It is fascinating because the wildcards to this are Will Black and Guerby Lambert. Can either of them be THE LT? If so, that opens things up for Jagusah to play a guard and maybe Knapp at Center. Reality is we have a ton of talent here and should be setup for success.

In the past, some teams would literally flop the OL based on playside. Some Wing t teams still do.

Interesting tidbit on one of the recent II podcast: They were discussing Coogan and Tim O mentioned that he talked to him about how difficult of a decision he may have after this season on whether to transfer or not and if his love for ND makes that decision more or less difficult. Coogan's response was that it makes it way more difficult. That answer makes me feel like Coogan may not be here next season.

It is very hard for me to imagine Ashton Craig not starting at center next year. He booted an incumbent starter that went on to be 2nd team all acc at nc state.

What about Rocco? If they're asking him to play on a bum ankle in a playoff run, hard to imagine he gets unsealed next year.
