Prince: Pioneers have a juggernaut in Jagusah

The Alleman Pioneers have proven to be a solid football team in the Western Big 6 Conference and now they have a gem in the program who college football coaches are drooling over.

Charlie Jagusah is a 6-foot-6, 295-pound defensive lineman, a member of the class of 2023. Jagusah is a bona fide four-star recruit, with plenty of time to make that five-star status.

The gentle giant has offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Iowa State, and you can now add the University of Illinois to that list. Jagusah and his mother, Sheila Doak, recently made an unofficial visit to Illinois.

It was like a walk in the park getting around campus. Charlie has a brother who is a senior at Illinois, so the family is very familiar with the university.

“It was a lot of fun. I got to sit down with Coach (Bart) Miller and watch some game film," Jagusah said. "They showed me the style that they teach and how it translates to the next level. Overall it was really good.”

Even though his brother attends Illinois and his grandparents are Illinois fans, Jagusah said he is still wide-open when it comes to his college choice — adding he is going to pick a school that is the right fit for him. When asked if he expected more offers, he was humble and said he felt honored for any school to take interest in him.

Having seen some of the nation’s top basketball and football prospects and talking to them, they can be ignorant at times or just not interested. This kid, however, is a true gentleman and very respectful. It is hard not to pull for student-athletes like Jagusah, who visited the Iowa campus and made a trip to LSU.

Jagusah was a starting lineman for the Pioneers during the shortened spring season as a sophomore and more than held his own against older and more mature competition. That showed a high ceiling for his potential, and college coaches see that.

“Schools are recruiting me on the offensive side of the ball and defensive side. I would say it's about 50/50 OL/DL," he said. "The way my high school team played defense last year, it wasn't the system for me. Not that I am mad about it, they have to put a system in to help us win games. I would say I'm better as an offensive lineman, but after this year is when I will really find out...

For college, I'm trying to be a defensive lineman.

Illinois' coaches have one unique recruiting tool that many others struggle to compete with, and that is their new football practice facility. The Henry Dale and Betty Smith Performance Center has caught the eyes of many of the nation's top recruits.

“The new football facility was impressive, I like how all of the major rooms looked out onto the practice field,” Jagusah said.

Expect to see plenty more offers come in for Jagusah in the next two years as his stock is sure to to soar.

His profile pic cuts out the best part of that picture. Kid is in the thousand pound club at his school. He looks like a lean, mean 285.

Loy noted in one of his cover all articles, post USC, that the staff was very impressed with him during his USC visit. He's a guy that moved up their board.

Today, there is a poster at 247, so TIFWIW, that said he's hearing from people at his school that ND is his first choice.

Earlier in the thread, Loy mentioned ND loves this kid.

Is Charles going to be the first '23 OL in the class?

I think the HH is a bad recruiter is overblown as inconsistent might be more appropriate. But, this is a great place to start.

Don’t need a lot of numbers and we seems to have a couple targets that should be tee’d up for him. Mainly Jagusah and Freeling. Start there, get Absher or Bisontis. Then have Freeman/Rees recruit Proctor while selling HH’s first round successes.

Been hiding under a rock? Lol

Expect something after the bowl game.

Once again, is this a rumor or actual fact?
Both the Athletic and Irish Illustrated podcasts talked about it as a possibility, but neither said it was happening yet. Is someone reporting it is happening?

Not rumor, not fact, but is reported. Loy reported it.

Interesting.
I wonder how that will work since HH didn’t want to recruit anymore (the travel) and Freeman demands it. Prister, O’Malley and Sampson said on the podcast this week they were flat out told HH actually refused to go on the road & recruit towards the end.

I’d have to imagine his desire to have a job will win out.

It seems reasonable to think that if HH reached out to ND, then he knows what will be involved. Likewise, it would seem reasonable that if Freeman hires him, he’d be comfortable with his thoughts on recruiting.

Yeah I seriously doubt Freeman will let HH get away with not recruiting.

Or they have a recruiting design in place where he focuses on the main 5-6 they target and others do the initial recruiting on the other OL and then he gets more involved as needed. As long as he is deeply involved in the main targets/commits…I believe his history of putting top OL in the league is worth the hire.

I know that the reports are that HH was a tough ass and didn't want t recruit. I wonder how if this had anything to do with Kelly? HH had to of watched the press conference and heard Freeman say if you aren't go to recruit you won't fit here. So it makes me think that there was some kind of tension there.

Agree. It’s not that hard to figure out that Freeman will have this worked out with him before he comes on board.

ND OL recruiting will be like when the Jedi were recruiting Luke. They send a lesser Jedi (all other regional recruiters) out on the road to make contact but the recruit must go back to that nasty old tree (the Gug) to see Yoda (HH) to become a Jedi (commit)

HH didn’t like flying Commercial. Now that MFMMFF dropped his balls on Swarbricks desk about the private jet the University will be providing, Harry doesn’t have to fly with the rest of us cattle.
