LB: I think it remains to be seen how many players you need if any, but I also wouldn’t be shocked to see some key pieces hit the portal looking for money and a full time starting role.

DB: Probably need 2 depth guys, maybe a key player to start opposite Shuler if you can find one.

So the shopping list is likely 5-10 guys with emphasis on DT and WR.

Most of that seems about right, but a “full rebuild” at WR seems a little harsh. I would hope/expect they spend money on one proven WR.

Greathouse and Faison are both proven at this point and have proven to be reliable. The staff loves Saldate and Gilbert. KK Smith was getting some good minutes too.

I would hope for one potential starter and a depth guy in the portal.

I think the problem with WR is none of the guys coming in are plug-and-play guys, even just being rotation guys, and they'll likely lose 4-5 WR from the roster (Harrison, Collins, Mitchell, and at least 1 of Thomas/Colzie). They need 2-3 guys who are proven.

Cam Williams should be in the rotation next year his film is electric. I would assume Williams gets more involved in the passing game next year too

Greathouse and Faison are really good pieces to build off of but I'm guessing we are losing somewhere around 5+ guys after this year. Collins, Mitchell, Harrison all gone. At least one of Thomas and Colzie seem likely to be gone, maybe both. And someone else will transfer out the way things go nowadays.

Hopefully one of Williams or Gilbert take a huge step but somewhat concerning none of the freshman can get on the field with continued lackluster production from the wr core.

You gotta remember it may be hard selling a WR transfer when A your man offensive strategy is gonna be run the ball and get it into Loves hands as much as possible also not sure if any big time WR transfer is gonna wanna come here when the QB position is a quesition mark.

I don't know if I agree with that. With Carr taking the helm the passing numbers will jump significantly because that's his strength and there are about 50-60 extra yards a game out there because Riley Leonard isn't running the ball. Leonard will be a loss but this offense could improve next year with an elite o line and any improvement from the wide receiver position.

Yes, losing 5ish guys and 3 true frosh are coming in. There will be quite a few new faces, but 2 of the 3 starting positions are already filled for next year.

I don’t think they’ll bring in as many as last year, but who knows.

That's why you have to offer the biggest bag. Schools like Oklahoma and Miami have proven over the last few years that the lack of on-field production in terms of record and success at various positions can be overcome if you offer the biggest bag. They've gotten several players, both in HS and in the portal, that they really had no business getting, but they offered the biggest bag and got them.

QB: 1 must retain Minchey if not find a nice depth QB (assuming Angelli leaves)
RB: 0 Probably lose Payne, Make sure Price Stays
WR: 2 Need a #1 receiver, and a Boundary
TE: 0
OL: 0 try and keep the two deep intact
DT: 2 DTs preferably 2 Starters If Onye leaves we need 3 hoping that at least 2 have multiple years of eligibility
DE: 1 young high potential depth piece
LB: 0
CB: 1 Proven player for nickel
S: 0/1 If there is a stud get him. (Perich, Thienemen, Sanker)
ATH: 1 A game breaker (hoping for Z Branch but similar to Harrison)

Xavier Nwankpa from Iowa is someone I'd tamper with to see if he has interest. He was a EE so he should have his degree in a few weeks.

Iowa fans haven't been that impressed with him. Got benched after the Iowa State game but has earned his starting job back.

Antione Jackson CB from UCF would be perfect 2 years of eligibility left could start at NB would allow us to maybe let Golden start off at WR.

They likely still will. You don't see many true freshman kickers on CFP level teams.

Cole Wisniewski, NDSU - is an interesting defensive prospect. Switched to safety at 6'4" 218 in 2023. 92 tackles / 8 INT, PFF #1 safety and defender FCS. Didn't play this year, foot. Not sure if he fits to ND, but I think he'll get a good step up to a power team somewhere.

This is what bothers me about the Notre Dame NIL current set up. That’s fine! In fact I probably support that. But are you trying to tell me that if they opened up donations to fans again (like every other program), they couldn’t do both?
