Because ND alum realize throwing money at hs players isn't a great investment... they're not fucking stupid like these others

It’s not a wise investment, but it will probably be necessary very soon if the NIL game doesn’t get some rules.

I don't agree with not paying the top-tier players money, but if ND is going to prioritize the portal then they truly need to go all-in. I know they can't really get non-grad transfers who aren't Freshman through admissions, but when Freshman All-American studs like Caleb Downs come available you need to do everything possible to get them. If you're not going to drop bags for elite HS recruits then it's imperative that you get the Caleb Downs' of the world if/when they hit the portal. It appeared like they didn't really pursue him heavily, which was infuriating. You at least need to be in the hunt. It can't just be guys with only 1 year of HS left. If you can only non-grad transfers who are only 1 year out of HS, then you need to go after elite Freshmen that hit the portal, particularly ones that you offered out of HS.

I think you’re wrong..

I also think the absurdly large amounts will eventually stop when too many of them bust but we’re going to have to be more competitive.

Reason we are doing well right now is bc of Freeman’s high end recruits like Love. A lot of his highly ranked guys like Young, Asa, Bowen, sneed, Gray, Greathouse, Schuler etc are making more than an impact. Going back to BK style recruiting isn’t going to keep the needle moving.

Counterpoint: Leonard Moore and Anthonie Knapp were unheralded 3* and are not only starting but have a good chance to be Freshman ALl-America.

They're making more of an impact this season than Sneed or Greathouse are this year.

Young was also a lowly 3* when he was recruited & committed....

Knapp and Moore were both composite 4 stars
