I’d still defer. Why change your philosophy for one game? Besides, Golden’s D usually gives up first drive TDs before settling in so at best it’s 7-7 after one drive each. I’d rather see ND score before half & then get the ball to start 2H. JMO.
Idk if that's the best strategy against Army or Navy, though. It's common knowledge them playing from behind puts pressure on them. You give them the ball first, if they manifest one of those long drives that eat up 10 minutes, all of a sudden you're the one with the pressure and have to score every possession.

I love deferring and winning the "middle 8" but that's kind of out the window when your opponent is trying to play keep away with the football. I like the idea of taking the ball, scoring quick, and see what they can do.

Little story about Forrest Gump and that scene:

Senior year of high school our one English class had us watch it and analyze his storytelling. Now, I had already watched the movie numerous times, it's one I never get sick of. So we are watching the movie, and this scene happens, young Forrest grunts, and the lightbulb goes on in my head. I let out a large "OOOHHHHHH I GET IT NOW!" in the middle of class. The dozens of other times watching the movie, I just assumed this was a joke about Forrest being "dumb" and couldn't speak. But now, at 17 years old, in the middle of a Catholic high school classroom, I finally realized he was imitating the sex noises.

Anyway... Go Irish, Beat Knights!
OMG, that is hilarious pal!!!!:LOL::LOL:

The Army QB we're all told to be so concerned about played last week at North Texas

1/2 for 15 yards and an INT?

This guy better be Bo Jackson on the ground

The next two weeks will come down to motivated and focused MF can get his team to play. If they go 2/2 the next two weeks there should be no issues....... Should

If they can't focus and get up for these last 2 regular season games, knowing what's in front of them, what are we even doing? The team should be in playoff mode already. Win and advance, lose and enjoy the Pop Tarts bowl with half your squad.

Only concern i have is that this has been the reality since September. It's hard to keep up the "playoffs are now" mindset for the entire season, but the good news is that both Army (undefeated) and USC (rival) have factors that should help with motivation.

It’s his size. Army was only school to offer scholarship to play QB. Rest were at LB & most of them were FCS schools. My understanding is they have two or three linemen target a DL & they are followed by the FB & the QB so it’s pretty damn hard to stop in short yardage.

Good thing first down is long yardage.

I don't trust Denbrock and Leonard. I trust Golden. We need to somehow put 24 on the board to win.

They’ve scored 35ppg the last 7, and they’re playing a defense who hasn’t played a good offense all year, and are extremely vulnerable over the top.

Where’s your distrust?

Side note: ND hasn’t conceded more than 14 since Louisville, if they get 24 it might be a cover

I'll have my eyes on the second drive on defense. First drive will take some adjustment and well see what they got schemed up different. Then hopefully we're settled in by the 2nd drive

Not a lot of chatter about Army having two weeks to prepare. That’s plenty of time to get their offense refreshed after a lackluster outlying vs UNT & AF (albeit w/ backup QB). Monken will have some trickeration dialed up. Doubt ND goes back to the fake punt well but I can see Army doing it.

I’m going to the game with two of my sons (11 & 9) the others are younger & will likely complain of boredom & cold winds.. We’re sitting first row on the 1st base line near the foul pole.. Looking forward to it.

I’m really not worried about this game.. I think we simply pull away bc we’re more athletic & trained against the option.. simple analysis.

But USC scares the shit out of me.. every game they’ve lost has been close & they are FAST at a number of positions & just changed QBs to Maiava which can rejuvenate teams.

The one thing I do see is that both QBs throw a lot of picks & we obviously thrive in that dept.

But this will be their “big game” & they’re pretty athletic at the skill positions..

You’ve got to watch more than his one game coming back from injury/illness. Daily actually reminds me a lot of Leonard, which for Army is an unmitigated very good thing. He’s very elusive and powerful on the run and can pass well enough to pick up big plays when needed, but not always consistent in the air.

Not sure about the elusive part. Looks like he just runs over people, although the only game I watched was N T St. He is definitely not fast and gets most of his yards between the tackles.

I'd be surprised IF ND gets the ball enough to score 44 pts. (w/ Army's control the clock offense), unless the Defense can ring up a couple of scores (fumbled scoop and score or a pick-six). Just sayin'.

I don’t think they hang onto it that long.. Our DBs can play on islands.. Sneed, Bowen, Ausberry play fast, disciplined & Army gets desperate forcing them into mistakes.

Ever since the NIU loss we’ve been a different team.. Last week if the refs don’t get too involved we embarrass Virginia.

I don’t know.. Maybe I’m wrong but Freeman seems to have them locked in & Riley keeps getting better..

Army has been successful against absolute trash opponents.. If ND is a playoff caliber team this game is in hand early.

I watched the North Texas condensed game.

I was nervous because all the talking heads, especially Prister, were talking about how big and physical this Army team is, especially on the lines.

I just don't see it, ND has bigger, faster, stronger athletes at every position. Does it mean this will be a cakewalk? No. ND still has to be efficient, score on every drive, not turn the ball over and not have a bunch of penalties. If they do that, they win be two or three scores, even if Army plays "well".

Daily to me, is a bruising tailback. Obviously with him being the QB, that improves their numbers in the box. He's not elusive or quick from what I see. They are content with having 2 or 3 big guys run at you and get 3 or 4 yards every play as a result. He's a terrible passer from what I saw. Sure, he can hit a wide open guy if the DBs fall asleep, yes. But so could I.

Win first down on defense, and it's a long day for Army after that.

On offense, RTDB with our backs and Leonard. North Texas ran a lot of swings and WR screens that worked. It should work even better with our athletes. I don't think ND should even be tempted to "stretch the field" or get cute.
