I would say except for the two atrocious long ball ints one was way underthrown (the worst) and the heave it long with horrible lack of effort by Collins. Other than that he has actually put several balls downfield over 25 yards in good spots. He has also drawn several PI’s as well. In general we haven’t needed that out of him and have played with the lead all year so it’s been unnecessary to go deep as opposed to grind out the clock drives with lower risk pass attempts.

We will find out (God forbid) how well we can pass unfortunately when we are multiple scores behind and it’s predictable. Let’s hope that never happens. If Riley runs more on the read option that will be way to loosen up the defense.

Interesting nugget from an article in The Athletic. We are hyper sensitive to the Irish not throwing the deep ball - here we see that the guy some IE posters wanted instead of RL having the same issue:
I don't think it's the same issue. RL is not facing two deep safeties very often...

....again, he has been better.

Since you mentioned it, I just wanted to add that Beau has stretches in a handful of games where his head or heart just doesn’t seem in it. We’ve obviously seen flashes from him, but there are times where I feel like he’s a net negative out there. Really wish he would put it together.

The 1st was horribly underthrown; the 2nd horribly overthrown. I'd say he was just calibrating - the next one should be Goldilocks!

The second one was to shut up the people that have said he has a noodle arm and can’t throw it past 30 yards. It was throw 50 air yards before it was picked! #Improvement

My question is this...how wise is it to play 90% of the snaps with a QB that wont be here next year while next years QBs get zero real game experience? That means next year QB will be a flat out problem starting with no game experience. ND isnt going to progress long in the playoffs even if it does manage to make it in. At what point do we give ourselves a chance next year?

For 1 we're trying to make the playoffs. 2 next year's QB is nursing an injury and wasn't even available.

I wouldn't mind seeing Minchey or Carr playing in garbage time instead of Steve "takes all the sacks" Angeli, but end of the day it doesn't really matter. We're in the run for a playoff spot and that's the most important thing. Next year can sort itself out afterward.

I’m curious how you think this happens? I know it’s a business but if you put Carr out there after Leonard, I imagine Minchey and Angeli are in the portal the next day. They may be anyway but that’s next years problem.

He's really improving and I find myself joining the "wish we had him for two years" crowd.
I regret some of my early posts in this thread.
He looks so much more comfortable and in control out there……amazing what familiarity with the playbook, your teammates and repetition will do for your confidence. Denbrock warned everyone before the season started that it was going to be a work in progress on offense with so many new pieces in place. Throw in Leonard not being able to really participate fully until later in the year and it’s pretty exciting to see what else he can build upon for this season. Another year would be sweet although the hype train might be a bit overpowered……

Leonard has upped his game in the last couple of weeks. What has impressed me the most is his passing game and we need to get Mitchell & Collins involved more. The chemistry of this offense is clicking at the right time.

Because next year you are going to be crying in your beer because you have a starting QB with zero game experience lining up week one vs Texas A&M who will have a vast improved QB playing with real game experience

Weigman still sucks, though. He was 6-18 for 64 yards last night.

A&M is going to be Week 3 next year.
