Spindler it seems didn't play well but it's hard to tell from a non all 22 film
Had two false starts. Also saw that Gillotte got to RL by going thru Rocco but there’s no shame in that as he’s a monster on the DL.

Rendell pinned Louisville at their own 16, 8 and 4 yard lines on his first three punts. His fourth punt was not a very good one (under 40 yards) but overall I’d say that he had a decent day…..far from stinking it up.
When we needed a boomer he had about 28 yards in the air with no hang time. Those points were stupidly fielded by a dumb returner just like when #37 did the same stupid thing setting up our fumble at our own 5.

Yes he's inconsistent. Hopefully this improves

On rewatch, future is very bright with Moore at CB. He came flying out of nowhere to force the fumble on the QB run.
He was outstanding. Only time he really got beat was on an unbelievable throw to the corner pylon.

I was legitimately impressed by Tyler Shough. That dude made some ridiculous throws. His second TD pass, with pressure in his face, that arm angle was Matt Stafford-esque, and he placed it perfectly.

I’d move Burnham to vyper and keep giving Young reps at DE.

I’d also give Lambert a look at LT and put Billy S. at LG opposite Rocco after the bye.

He may be the best QB we see all season.

That might end up being GT's guy Haynes King when all is said and done.

Shough is up there, though.

Both guys are good, but I was highly impressed with Shough's ability to drive the ball down field. He'll definitely get drafted in April.

So watched the offensive play highlight reel. Am I the only one to think that Riley is missing several opportunities for huge open runs when he hands the ball off up the middle? He runs the ball a lot in direct snap runs and does well be he rarely pulls down the ball and takes off. Don’t know if he just doesn’t want to get more banged up or just isn’t seeing it. In the film room this has to be evident to he and Dennrock. They just started keying on our RB as he rarely keeps it. He needs to keep it to keep the D off balance.

You can’t just dump Knapp though. He has a bright few years ahead. Anyway is Schrauth expected back after the bye?

Thought the same when watching live, but just assumed I didn't know WTF I thought I was seeing.

My understanding is that very few teams run a true read. On those plays that look like read options/zone reads, it's very likely a straight "give" or "take" call.

Even on the RPO where there are supposed to be three options, it's really just one key defender and make a choice.

I’m not saying “dump” him. Same thing happened to Spindler last year. If there is someone better at his position, play the other guy and Knapp can keep developing (and growing). Lambert is 320 lbs and won’t be so easy to drive back into the pocket. Next year, Knapp can slide inside where he is better suited.

And we on the outside have no idea of what Denbrock has instructed Riley to do.

At #10 in SP+ following this past week, with Louisville at #14 and A&M at #19.

USC down to #22, which means we’d almost certainly be favored by a few points today.

I watched the L'ville GTech game and King isn't the passer Shough is. He's more like a more consistent version of Riley L. King is as good a runner as Riley and their OL is better than ours.

Tech's going to be a handful. Their game with L'ville could have gone either way, a blocked FG returned for a TD is a killer play.

I wouldn’t say King is as good of a runner but he is better at improvising. He has also been prone to turnovers in the past. I would also say that Tech‘s defense is not as good as Louisville’s appears to be (especially on the D-line). I would agree that the Jackets won’t be an easy game for the Irish but if ND can get more consistent on offense (which we’ve seen some flashes) it will give us a much better chance to bounce them.

My understanding as well. We should be running a true zone read with Leonard and Love. Hell throw in a two back set with Price and run some zone read into speed option

I think that would be ambitious so my guess is after Stanford at the earliest.
Sampson has indicated that ND expects Gray, Scrauth, Burham, Flanagan and Rubio to all be available vs Stanford.
I have noticed that under Freeman our injury reports have been overly optimistic.
We probably won't get any updates on the guys injured vs L'ville (Faison, Traore, Pendleton and Kiser) until next Monday's presser.
