He might need to take over for good against Louisville.
And then boards will be calling for Minchey to start getting reps over Angeli once opponents have enough tape to game plan vs him & expose his faults. This will never end until they finally develop a QB which looks to be next year

Again we were sold a bill of goods that wasn’t that good to begin with.

Whoever is do the transfer evaluations needs some help.

This stat is misleading and somewhat inaccurate. He completed a 20 yard gain to Collins against A&M, right? Greathouse, the guy who has received a bunch of preseason praise, needs to catch that ball against NIU. I’m starting to think he’s overrated.

It’s not all on Leonard.

I don’t know how this is your take away. The average Completion % for NFL QBs on throws over 20 yards is sub 50%.

My take away is that if he can get back to just 2022 passing levels, the offense will be pretty prolific. He doesn’t need to be perfect if the run threat is there. He’s obviously hesitant / uncertain in a way he wasn’t previously.

My assumption on the Collins throw you referenced that it didn't "technically" meet the criteria as the throw itself was about 18-19 yards and another yard or two of forward momentum after he caught the ball. Who knows.

The throw to Collins wasn't 20+ in the air tho, right? And even if Greathouse catches that, we're still talking about 1/5 for Leonard. That's not ok.

Idk. He went out of bounds right away, and I remember them saying it was a gain of 20.

The only one that is 100% Leonard’s fault was the interception. He missed Collins last weekend, but he had pressure in his face. He missed Greathouse against A&M but there was a flag for DPI

I think it’s also the throws he’s not making because he’s playing scared. With our run game we should be getting plenty of explosive completions and definitely a throwing td by now.

He needs to step up in the pocket and let it rip. There are guys open but he’s not comfortable waiting an extra second to make throws. He’s never been accurate as a passer but he doesn’t set his feet and is always looking to take off too quickly. Very frustrating.

Riley is a one year rental with limited experience. He has had one good year in college (2022). He has a new OC, new offense, the OC is new (at least to this group of players), new OL with limited experience, new WRs (although some are experienced), new everything in reality and he didn’t really didn’t practice in spring since he was coming off an injury. Those are a lot of factors to put into his performance equation. Not surprising he isn’t totally comfortable in what he is doing, especially with the passing game. Hopefully we’ll see comfort start to creep in and we’ll see him become a more complete player that has allegedly been seen in practice. The coaching staff will be big part of this, obviously, but in the end Riley will need to execute.

Horka is using 2022 as a comp because it’s the only season where he was passable throwing 20+.

I don’t have the numbers, but I’m fairly certain I saw a tweet coming into this season about his poor performance throwing 20+ last year. So this is something we definitely could’ve/should’ve been aware of coming into this season.

I don’t mind the coaching staff taking a shot on him coming into this season. If he can throw anywhere close to 2022 and couple it with his 2024 running, we have Josh Allen. That being said, he’s clearly not putting it together and we need to make a switch if we want any chance of throwing the ball more than 10 yards.

Trent Dilfer was a game manager. Brady was also a game manager.

It's a QB that doesn't improvise and is a safe player.

Game manger is the baseline.
"Game manager" isn't an official term and you can find a wide variety of definitions, BUT there is a consensus and your definition doesn't fit that consensus. Improvisation has little to do with whether or not a QB is considered a game manager.

The definition of game manager that most football people generally accept is a QB with average stats who doesn't make many mistakes; a QB who won't be the reason to win a game but also won't be a reason to lose one. Most QBs consider the label to be an insult.

Tom Brady definitely was NOT a game manager. Early on in his career people tried to label him as that, but his numbers suggested otherwise. He wasn't average. He was at or near the top of the NFL in TD passes most years and frequently put the team on his back during crunch time in close games. He was the main reason his teams won. He wasn't an average part of the whole.

The quarterback who is currently being mislabeled as a game manager is Brock Purdy. While he might be closer to being a game manager than TB was since he has elite offensive weapons around him, in 2023 he was 5th in passing yards, 3rd in TDs, and led the league in QBR. Elite stats mean he shouldn't be considered a game manager either (not that I'm claiming you said he was).

You are correct that Dilfer was rightly considered a game manager. His teams didn't win because of him but they didn't lose because of him either. The same can't be said of Brady.

Yeah, playing scared I guess is a good label. There's something going on. He may not be Trevor Lawrence or Tom Brady, but he doesn't strike me as a Tyler Buchner type who I still say has some infrastructure things that cause him to not have the ability to relax in the pocket and have poise... RL doesn't strike me as a QB with that issue but something is for sure affecting his mental confidence and pocket poise / concentration and the coaches don't seem to be successful so far in helping him work through it.
