Al-Quadin Muhammad
Kinda wild looking up some of these long-lost names.
While at Miami, Muhammad managed to be suspended two entire seasons, which seems like quite a feat at Miami. (His sophomore year for "an altercation," his senior year for his role in a "luxury rental car scandal.") Seems like he might've been a poor fit at ND.
Still got drafted though and had a decent NFL career mostly with Indy.

For Adebo, I believe it was an open secret that he was always Stanford's if he was admitted. He was admitted and boom they never had a chance.

Can't let this thread go any further without mentioning Sam Hubbard, whom Lax was pounding on the table for in the threads as he was an absolute perfect fit at CAT but Diaco just couldn't be bothered to pick up the phone. I believe he was even committed to ND Lax too? Then flipped to the Buckeyes because Urban Meyer actually recruited him.
Had a sibling currently enrolled at ND, very smart kid, wanted to come to ND, and when Ohio State offered but ND wouldn't even pick up the phone he ultimately flipped from ND Lax to the Buckeyes. Months and months later Diaco reached out to him with an offer and he basically told him to go fuck himself.

Most of the misses -- Keuchly, Hubbard, etc. -- from back in the day were just from staff laziness and dysfunction. The misses we get now are from simply getting beat on the trail, which to me is a lot easier to deal with.

Vanderdoes recruitment was wild. Seems like the kinda kid who needed to get tough and grow up and UCLA probably wasn't the best place for that to happen.
Was truly one of the most underhanded things I've seen outside of the SEC. I never knew UCLA played that way.

Dick Butkus - IIRC he was married to his HS sweetheart & ND didn’t allow coed cohabitation on campus yet & players had to live on campus.

Didn‘t Muhammad want ND but it was either grades or core courses related? John Lynch was another one who got away. Vinny Cerrato said Lynch wanted to come but they took Jake Kelchner instead. And TIFWIW, but Tom Lemming was on Chris Zorich’s podcast a few years ago and said he asked DeMatha’s HC, who was a long-time friend of his, why ND didn’t get Chase Young. The Coach said it was because Kelly never visited the school and didn’t have a relationship with Young, meanwhile Urban was at the school all the time.

Had to Google his name actually lol. I remembered his last name though! I remember wanting him and the one that went to Georgia with his sister.

A more recent one who would be at ND if not in the NIL era is Samuel M'Pemba... but he hasn't worked out at UGA so far.

Never understood why we didn't get more kids out of Maryland/DC Catholic schools. But this would track.

Wasn't Chase Young supposedly a ND lean and BK never recruited him?
Tom Lemming flat out asked Young's HS coach, who he had been friends with for 40 years, why Young didn't go to ND. The Coach said it was because Kelly never visited the school and didn't have a relationship with him. Instead, Kelly would send the DL coach (Elston?) to the school while Urban was constantly at the school.

Never understood why we didn't get more kids out of Maryland/DC Catholic schools. But this would track.

Lemming said on the Zorich podcast that he told ND Head Coaches for years that all they'd have to do is visit the top Catholic High School programs every year, even to just shake hands and nod at the recruits. He brought up that it's easy to do since a lot of them are bunched together. The DMV has DeMatha, Good Counsel, Gonzaga, St. John's, St. Frances. NJ has Bergen Catholic, Don Bosco, St. Peter's Prep, SJR, and Paramus Catholic. Cincinnati has St. Xavier, Moeller, Elder, and LaSalle. SoCal has Mater Dei, Servite, Bosco, Orange Lutheran. He said all the great recruiters (Meyer, Saban, Carroll) did that constantly, and Willingham and Kelly didn't.

Not being argumentative, but I wouldn't say he had a decent career. As a Colts fan, he didn't ring a bell so I looked him up. Drafted by the Saints and cut after a year. Colts then picked him. Questionable character guy looking at his college and pro career.

Indianapolis Colts (first stint)

On September 2, 2018, Muhammad was claimed off waivers by the Indianapolis Colts.[10] He was waived by the Colts on October 4, 2018, and was re-signed to the practice squad.[11][12] He was promoted to the active roster on October 13, 2018.[13]

In Week 10 of the 2020 season against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday Night Football, Muhammad was ejected from the game after punching offensive tackle Ty Sambrailo.[14]

Muhammad re-signed with the Colts on April 1, 2021.[15]

Chicago Bears

[edit]
On March 20, 2022, Muhammad signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears.[16]

He was released on February 21, 2023.[17]

Indianapolis Colts (second stint)

[edit]
On July 25, 2023, Muhammad signed a one-year contract with the Colts.[18] He was released on August 29, 2023, and re-signed to the practice squad.[19][20] On December 6, 2023, Muhammad was suspended for six games without pay by the NFL for violating the NFL’s policy on Performance Enhancing Drugs.[21] He was not signed to a reserve/future contract after the season and thus became a free agent upon the expiration of his contract

Keuchly stings not only because of the player he became but because he would’ve played next to Manti which would’ve been insane to watch

He was a three star player who didn't have an offer from Ohio State or Michigan. What is true now would've been true then if he'd signed. ND fans would've puked coat hangers about it.

It's amazing how many games we won with Kelly with an average QB and barely any playmakers and maybe 1-2 better than good players on defense.

Not sure how big of a “miss” it was but Amon Ra St Brown felt like a big miss considering his brother came to ND. USC got the better St Brown.
