I know it might tough to fathom, being you’re from rural Ohio and all but being that in my work and doing it in Toronto (you may not know this but it’s the third largest city between the US/CA) it is part of my job to understand the political climate of the US. So yes, I may not have my finger on the pulse of Josie’s corner store.

I mean, if we’re talking about political violence Republicans have had a monopoly on this for quite some time. What are the solutions? Thoughts and prayers? It’s pretty telling that Republicans get more upset when Dear Leader gets shot at then when kindergarteners are gunned down like nothing. I am completely apathetic to it all, Republicans bitch and moan about ohhhhh the rhetoric is tooooooo nasty and then do the most insane fear mongering shit ever or that it’s getting too out of control with these crazies. Whatever man, I know my relatives and friends kids aren’t going to school with action plans on how to survive a shooting because of Brian Stelter article.

The comment comparing the Presidential assassination and school shootings in silly. Quite frankly I haven't really noticed anyone on the right calling for stricter gun laws after either, but what has been called for is greater protections for each. Why? Because it actually makes sense. The assassination event in Pennsylvania never happens if the Secret Service is doing their job properly. Likewise, we've seen in the past that schools that have proper protections in place will get avoided by shooters as they look for easier targets, like the Nashville shooting where Hale ended up moving on from one target school to a different one that was easier to enter. Schools will continue to be targets for lunatics until they're properly protected. Suicide shooters want maximum casualties, vulnerable schools are the perfect place to achieve that because they're easy targets. When they're no longer easy targets, they'll cease being targets.

Nah. I don’t know how many more times I need to see my cousins and their kids at holidays and hear about how the gun drills are going. Just to see people talk about “oh don’t politicize this!!!” and then those very same people have no problem politicizing this.

So, no, my family and loved ones are suffering the very real consequences of inaction. I will continue to donate to causes to hopefully one day make a difference even though I don’t directly live there.

That is entirely the problem. There should be no one walking around with an AK47, much less near the former president. I can not believe his wasn't lit up like a Christmas tree. It is insane to me that a guy with an AK was brought into custody unharmed.

The argument of schools being easy targets doesn't hold water when you consider that the US has 3x the number of guns per capita than Canada, and has 96x the number of school shootings. Our schools aren't anymore secure than those in the US.

I feel terrible for the people of Springfield, OH. The fallout of the debate has led to bomb threats forcing schools to lockdown and general chaos for their residents, police, doctors, nurses and educators. Among many others.

My buddy is a teacher in Grafton ND. The ag work up there is super conducive to migrant labor. Nothing either party wants to do would fix that. Anyways, he says the education of all the kids is basically wrecked because he's got a ton of kids who miss a ton of days, move in and out of the school routinely, but he needs to teach them.

There are gonna be towns like that. The people there accept it as their economic reality.

But dumping thousands of people in towns that aren't equipped is really not helping your own people. Immigration should exclusively and always be focused on our benefit, not the benefit of the immigrant.

Ask Chicago how those gun controls are going. You might have missed the point where we've amassed ~400 million guns in this country, more guns than people. We have the technology to 3D print working guns if we wanted. Tell me how you're going to realistically control that many firearms, because Pandora's Box is open at this point. Laws only apply to law abiding citizens. I know you're in Toronto and all so you can have a pass, but the fear mongering here over the "danger" of another Trump term is far worse than anything the Republicans have cooked up over Kamala. As it stands, Illinois is in the top five when it comes to laws and regulations to protect it's citizens. We're at 14.4 guns deaths for every 100,000 citizens and the national average is 14.2.

CPD releases report after report showing guns used in crimes within the city limits are coming from Indiana, Mississippi, etc. 60% come from outside the state of Illinois. Some purchased legally, some not.

Kind of a pain in the ass when the "states rights" of so many others blur the lines of where your rights begin and end. We have neighbors in every direction that had weak laws to begin with, and they've been made even weaker in recent years.

Missouri, for example, is at the bottom end around 40th out of 50 and they have 24.2 gun deaths per 100,000 citizens. That being said, we know what party controls their state legislature So nobody cares.
