It's kinda a combination. He hasn't moved on to anywhere else cuz he doesn't need to / want to, he wants to spend time with family. Making that decision was in no small part because of friction with Freeman over how he wanted him to train the team.
Tbh -- I'm a huge Freeman fan, but from the version of this I heard, I think he messed up here
I heard someone else offer up versions of what happened and they also thought Balis should've been retained. After I heard the story, I think Freeman made the right move, even if it was a hasty decision precipitated by having an "awakening" for how modern strength coaches could operate.
The odd thing about all this is the colloquial title of the position is no longer apropos: Strength and Conditioning has given way to Power and Speed. No one wants raw strength per se, it's more about power - ie - the ability to rapidly produce force. And speed is the ultimate seperator.
Conditioning should almost be non-existent when prioritizing the energy systems to be trained. You can build training volume while continuing to monitor key benchmarks for decreased performance so you can identify breaking points in the athletes.
Landow's hire will be seen as an inflection point for the program, especially after the compound interest represented by players having multiple years in his system.
The doubters better unload the clip because the target will shrink moving forward. (coming from someone who has done far too much research on Landow)
